I'm just trying to mix things up this holiday. We almost always eat the same thing for every major holiday with the exception of the main meat. For Christmas, we have ham, and I was trying to find new recipes so Dad could eat everything with his fork instead of having to switch to his spoon. Trading utensils for Dad is a bit of a pain for everyone. So instead of mashed potatoes, potato salad, corn... etc. I'm thinking roasted potatoes, glazed carrots, macaroni and cheese, Plus, my parents just need a more balanced diet.

Congrats to all the winners I've missed so far!
Life got super crazy the last half of October, between finally moving into my new apartment and then getting hit with Covid, but things are starting to settle down again and I'm glad to be able to participate in the Yule festivities!

Gotcha and your lineup sounds great, (-8 I love glazed carrots, (-8 I just made mac and cheese for Pooka yesterday using my fav homemade recipe (though I used ludicrously expensive keto/lupin flour pasta and thickened it with cream cheese instead of flour... but that's just because of our own needs. I used to make it as is and it's great!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZQ6TaG0EVwalso you can never go wrong with roasted potatoes, (-8 If you are interested there are a couple of fancy variations. Everyone seems to like hassleback potatoes which is super easy to make but imo they look pretty but aren't anything special beyond that. I used to also bake whole potatoes, then cut the top off (to make like a boat) then mix the mashed potatoes with lots of cream cheese and some spices (or whatever flav you wanna go with) then stuff them back into the boat. Also also, English roast potatoes are a fun variation that take a few extra steps but always turn out super nice. I'd add a note depending on your dad's utensil abilities, sometimes these can get a bit extra crispy and might need to be precut (though they shouldn't be hard to chew if that's an issue.) I haven't used a recipe for them in long enough I wouldn't remember a specific one but they usually look like this but you may want to google a few to see if they're appealing to you, (-8 (basically, peel and precook the potatoes then heat up some oil (goose fat is traditional, duck fat is better, but any grease or oil that with a high smoking point will get the job done!) in an oven safe pan. Cut them into big squares or cubes... you want as much flat surface area as possible. add the squared potatoes to the hot oil in the pan. You can flip them a few times as the edges crisp.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwvZhGtvcl0

"Thank you for the gift!"Enticed by the curious-looking objects, Lapita pawed through them until she caught a whiff of something. Something that smelled... spicy? No, not spicy exactly... crisp and fresh, with a hint of sweetness. She looked down, and caught sight of a cane-shaped object among the items on offer. It reminded her of something she'd heard other Sphinx talking about, a special treat from Katterheim, they'd said. Unable to resist, Lapita grabbed the red-and-white object and took a careful lick. Mmmm, yes, that WAS it! With a delighted smile, she bit down, enjoying the sweet, crisp, and - yes, it was a slightly spicy taste. "I'll dake thith," she tried to explain to the gift-giver, though it was hard to miss the candy cane in her mouth!

Ulla grinned merrily as she padded up to the festive display the lovely white and red female was putting on. After considering a moment, she picked up one of the peppermint sticks and smiled gratefully. "Thank you for the gift!"

*just sits upon a sack of coal* Well i've been bad. This started 9 hours ago and I am just NOW seeing this thread. Ah me. I'll look over everything more carefully when I get home from work tomorrow. For now though, I'm off to bed. I'll toss in the word search tomorrow afternoon. The reindeer are awesome, I'd love to get one. Maybe this year I'll have some luck and get a Yule Priestess, but seeing the Priest one...I may need one of them too XD For now though, good night everyone *curls up on her pile of coal*

Good afternoon! It looks like more people are showing up, and after I have a coffee to warm up (it's really cold here) I'll start up again. ^_^

*sips tea and peeks at Yule projects!*
good morn... afternoon!
I haven't had much time to chat and I'm just catching up with all the stuff Pooka's made and games she set up, wowza! (-8 (and I can't preview the treat she made for you all last night but it's sooooo adorable!)
Pooka's got some more fun for today getting set up and I'm going to see what I can do to help out too, (-8 I've got a couple ideas!
...and totally off topic, Pooka wanted some mint jelly for dinner but they didn't have any at any nearby store. I figured I could get creative and make some but neither store had unflavoured gelatin or pectin either... so I'm heading one step farther down the creative line and seeing what I can make out of a box of jello and some fresh mint, (-8 wish me luck!

We shall certainly see what sort of cuteness we can handle! 😋
Mint jelly sounds delicious! In my mind I imagine that adding mint to the lime jello could be a good combination 🤔
