whereupon we'll explore the Moonfire Elves, their allies and their surrounding territory... Here's a couple of important games I forgot to leave a post for, spoilered below! To help delve into the setting even more, lets share some locals...Welcome to Moonfire Island!Everyone who posts a character name and a brief (if desired, I never mind un-brief... no there's a better word. non-brief, ya that's the one.) character description can have one of these pretties!  These Sphinxes come as above, but if you have an item or something else you would like to add/modify her (like say a wig/job voucher) you can add that info in your entry post. Other than these notes there are no changes to this Sphinx, (-8 (if you pick your own items, like a wig voucher, you can ask for specific colours as usual though!) ((there's no rush to add these items and you can always do it later via PM as usual, just figured I'd primitively offer!)) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learn the Lore of Svartalfheim The Moonfire Bard spoke to the curious crowd... It is my duty to share the lore of Svartalfheim but I am sometimes hesitant to simply shine light on such darkness... as to not instil fear, or worse yet send of clueless heroes into the monsters den. Perhaps if you share a story yourself, something that displays your bravery or skill?Share an in-character story about something particular brave, heroic or skillful that your character has done! It should be a minimum of 250 words and should have a goodly direction or heroic outcome. (perspectival speaking, at least!) ...or maybe action works better for you then simply recounting your adventures. For you perhaps you can join our next hunting trip!post an image of a monster and roll a d20 in the same post. If you roll a 19-20 you are successful! You may enter this contest as many times as you want until you succeed in your dice roll but you must post a different monster image every time and your image cannot be one that has been posted by anyone else above you! The prize for these contests is Lore. ((...and a password to that lore.)) Here is another game for building Character Profiles! Character Profile ContestBuild a character profile for any new Dark Elven character from Moonfire Island, Ssa'Delmah or any other setting of your choice, personal or published.
You can use any means you like as usual; descriptive writing, character checklists, RPG character sheets, art, music or anything at all you like to describe your character.
While it does say 'character' above you can also enter a profile for a group... say a Noble house or Mercenary Company of Ssa'Delmah, or an adventuring band of Moonfire Elves, as long as at least one of the group is a Dark Elven character.
Everyone may enter this contest as often as you like with multiple profiles. Today we're going to explore some lore of the Dark Alfar also known by many other names, like dark elves and drow, across our Sphinx world and many many other planes. I want to explore Moonfire Island specifically but I also want to dive into all things dark elvish... Most people around here are familiar with our collection of Dark Elf characters and they often help us out with a plethora of tasks. Phae'shallee passing out cookies, Talalara sharing her sense of fashion, Zena bringing colour to life, Illiam'Ithra blessing or cursing those who deserve it, Mayolin portalling Sphinxes to fun and adventure and Kezzer just, you know, looking handsome.      Before I start a game I've got planned I thought I'd get things started with some questions or comments about Moonfire Island and Dark Elf Sphinxes! If anyone has an questions about the setting... in character notes, out of character questions or anything in between feel free to ask me! |

This is a great in and out of character question and I'll use it to answer a few things probably more completely then needed, (-8 So, as a Sphinx setting this place has it's own flavour, descriptions and history but that also includes the fact that people do come from other world from time to time which does sometimes shape both the past and future. Your dark elves (characters, homebrew, from other fictional settings etc etc.) are all welcome and will find their way. Out of character notes in addition to above... while I've worked on this setting, history and background I also make the costumes and toys and bits as a toolkit for peoples own Roleplays. Anyone is super welcome to use the above costumes and such to make their own places, settings, worlds and such, (-8 For the roleplaying heavy setting we're diving into over the next while, the Moonfire Elves are very welcoming and accepting of people that are not exactly the same as them! Also, hidden in the RP notes, while the Moonfire Goddess is originally a Dark Alfar Goddess she does accept females of other types/species of Sphinxes into her faith and priesthood! ..but the history and teaching does lean heavily on dark elven culture. Oh, and she is quick to make allies with many other goodly peoples and faiths making some frictionless relations with other heroes and deities. |

Could you tell us a bit about the general culture on the island? "Oh, of course!" Phae wiggles with excitement about being asked. "Centuries ago dark elven sphinxes wished to leave the very, very horrible evils of Svartalfheim deep underground. They were guided here by the Moonfire goddess. She is a very goodly goddess who encourages her followers to live with kindness and generosity. A huge part of the culture is music, singing and dancing. Part of her decree is to be generous and provide food for others, so hunting is a large part of the culture as well. The goddess is depicted with a sword, so swordwork, and even hunting with swords, is predominant as well." She ponders for a moment. "Moonfire Island is a matriarchy which is a leftover from Svartalfheim that never truly left, although males are treated much better then they would have been down there." Keltavi hugged her plushy close to her to protect it from the water's spray. "Can we find our way back to the island once we've been there? There must be a lot to explore! "The Moon Faced Owl warband can provide travel back, that and occasionally the moonfire elves make journeys onto the mainland." "Plushies! Yay! I've known of some priestesses who even collect plushies, I'm sure the gift would be very welcome." |

I'm curious as to why being of a goodly nature is important and about the Moonfire goddess. "This is mostly due to where the dark elven culture originally came from. Svartalfheim is a very, very evil place. It's to the point that it even may rival that of the worst demons. So the moonfire goddess works hard to counteract that, expecting goodness from her followers. On the mainland followers will often try to redeem evil, even befriend them... but the island itself is a sanctuary where it's not welcome so the followers can relax." She shrugs "Of course, goodness is just... good. I mean, who wants to live with a serial killer in their home?" |
