So last evening while I was reassuring Pooka that we would be able to figure out what to do about the website and that there was no disaster that we couldn't over come she noticed that the sky was getting super dark... and very shortly, within minutes it was black as the void here and an incredible storm whipped through making our front porch look like it was possessed by poltergeists and blowing rain both sideways and up somehow. There was a ton of thunder an lightning. Then the power went out. Sooo... I've been listening to the radio and our powers back atm, but the internet is a bit spotty (this is the second time I've written this)... Everything is supposed to be back up and running by this evening (says the radio, but even they are running on a backup gasoline generator.) So, its messy here, but everything is absolutely fine and good, there is no danger or reason to worry, but it just might be tricky to stay connected... (most phones are not working, and there are trees down on the highway.... oh and the radio just updated that they've got power again too and are not on the gen, (-8 so, we're almost back it seems!) ... 94.1 Moose FM if anyone is curious, (-8
either way, I want to post this in case the net disappears again!

Glad that you're both okay! Sounds like a real nasty storm. Hope everything goes smoothly with getting things back up and running in your area.

Things seem mostly normal atm, and the storm itself was in an out in less then 10 minutes (though it stayed super dark most of the evening and it keeps looking sort of on and off ominous today) but wow was it crazy! I can add a funny part of the story though, our son lives closer to downtown and when the power went out he took a walk downtown to see if it was just his neighborhood. When he got there the whole city was in darkness, no street lights, no radio station, nothing at all was on.... except for our local Tim Hortons which was all hooked up with generators and happily serving up the coffee and doughnuts that keeps Canada alive, (-8

...Wow. Maybe there's a curse on this entire festival.
And that story just confirms my personal belief that chain stores and fast food establishments would manage to stay open even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.

Ohhhh man, when that happens it is SO eerie. There was one day in Lexington here in KY when half of the city experienced a power outage and the sky was an eerie mustard gas yellow. It felt like a zombie apocalypse was on its way. XD
Glad everyone's okay, that sounds like one wicked storm!
And Spring, you are totally correct. Our Target store that I worked at stayed open even with only one manager there to run it throughout our snowpacalypse, we NEVER get that much snow (our vehicles were buried), I missed work for a week. XD

XD I spent two years as a fitting room attendant at Marshalls. The only thing I can ever recall us closing for was the 9/11 attacks. (no, not the anniversary - this was that long ago) [eta] and we're getting thunderstorm warnings now too. Hope it's not as bad as they're predicting... I don't want to have to deploy Hauhet to chase them away!

It was totally crazy! I can't believe the destruction from just a few minutes of storm that just came and went. I had to go to another board meeting today and just driving around I saw some huge trees totally uprooted, a few trees that fell on houses and in yards and I heard that a few hundred trees were down all along the highway and on the power lines.... (to picture where we are, you can google Elliot Lake if you like... we've got a Highway that connects us to the main highway (about a 25 minute drive) but it is all forest along the route and our only real corridor for everything that comes by wires....)
as a side note, we occasionally get some strong wind, but where we live it is almost impossible for things like tornadoes to form because the landscape is so hilly, rocky, bumpy and treed. That was just some crazy fluke weather!
...and another funny story from last night, when the power was out I got my old radio out and tried to tune something in... the first clear signal I got was someone talking about how their internet was out and it was kind of weird... he sounded super dramatic and my first thought was that this was another HUGE blackout or something... but it turns out we tuned in part way through a CBC comedy skit on a program called the Irrelevant Show, lol.
..and we do have the fans on MA! It has been super sticky and humid today, but just uncomfortably so, not quite like the stuff just south where they are getting heat warnings!
