Heya Kaats, I hope you're having an awesome holiday season, (-8
We roasted chestnuts a few days ago Angel, though with decidedly less droids involved, (-8 They were still delicious though!
*make's Pooka some popcorn*

I've never had roasted chestnuts to be honest XD They are naturally sweet and when cooked are sort of creamy soft. They can be used in both sweet (especially in Japan) and savory (especially North America) recipes to, but are just plain yummy on their own, (-8 (they are also really easy to cook in the oven if you ever see any at a grocery store during the season! ...but only get them fresh, unlike lots of nuts, these can't sit for to long...)

I haven't had chestnuts in forever! My mom would pan roast them and we would eat them that way, they're very good. When I crave that kind of flavor, I will also seek out Korean sweet potatoes, which also taste like chestnuts. ^^

I don't think I've had roasted chestnuts either.
I don't think we have any but I wonder if baking them would work next time we do and I actually remember.
Do they still need to be in their shells?

I'll have to look up how to cook them in a pan Cryptic, I'd love to try that! I've also never tried Korean sweet potatoes... I was trying to think of something to compare chestnuts flavour to but couldn't, they just taste like chestnuts, (-8 *googles* Oh, very technically I've tried them but I doubt I got the full chestnut vibe from some sweet potato KitKat (which was very sweet) I got from Japan from Tierasa and Operetta (also very sweet for hunting down my weird request, (-8) (Google tells me that the purple sweet potato they grow in Japan is the Korean variety)
ooo, mind you all this conversation is making me super crave a steamed sweet potato! Oh, I love those so much, and somehow super different then cooked any other way. Yum!

That's how I do them MA, baked in the oven. Yes I'm sure you need the shells to cook them this way but you MUST cut them open first or they will explode! There's a lot of moisture in there. There are plenty of instructions online with pictures that are better than I can describe, (-8 But basically you just slice them open on one side and when they are cooked you can crack them open nice and easy (usually, (-8)
I meant to do some over a fire one year, but we got some weird weather and I put it off and by the time I got to them they had gone off. They really don't keep long!
