The last while I've been putting a lot of effort into putting some thoughts to type. My trusty open office program is crammed full of half finished area descriptions, sphinx powers and lots more... I just write on what I'm thinking about at the time (it get better results if I just follow my inspiration and go with it) and then I'll post things up when I feel they're complete (or complete enough).
What I wanted to ask you is what sort of things do you want to know about Sphinxes? Right now I'm working on simple everyday things concering Sphinxes like how long they live, how they're hands grasp things, diet, etc... Is there anything you've been burning to know? Just post any thoughts you have here and I can put it on my list of things I'll write up!

How about the average size of sphinxes? I like being able to get a rough idea of how big a RP character is.

Do the sphinxes come from other places around the globe than just egypt? And if so, would they look different? (as in traits maybe, like sphinxes from cold places could be furier to say the least?)
Just totally curious xD

*reads silentmoon's post*
hrmm I recall the mention of non sphinxes like dwarves showing up, would that mean bringing in you're persona as a sort of companion to you're sphinxes be alowed in RP?

Hmm, I dont quite understand what you mean by bringing in a persona but... yeah, I recall there being dwarves and a few humans in Khemet. But they aren't sphinxes, to say the least.

Interesting.... exactally what I'm looking for. I won't answer these here though, but I'll work them into my Sphinx Info posts that I'll be putting up as fast as I can type them.
Sphinx sizes is an interesting one, I'll see if I can get Pooka to draw a size reference pic with some other races in it when she's got a spare moment.
Sphinxes from around the world you say... *looks around eyeing potential eavesdroppers* uhm where did you get an idea like that? *knowing smirk*

I would love to know how long lived Sphinxes are. Are their lifespans similar to a humans, or longer/shorter?
ETA: LOL, I read too fast. XD Just saw in your first post that you're working on this already. My bad!

Questions about the hair and wigs?
Um, it wasn't specific but I think that I can still answer that easily by just saying what Egypt itself was like.
The humans of Egypt frequently cut, or shaved their hair and wore wigs instead. It was better due to the heat, and it kept away lice. Some people did have their natural hair, but it was more often the lower classes.
For sphinxes, they do have natural hair, usually black if human headed, or coloured like thier body colours for feline faced ones. But, following many of the same fashion trends as the humans of Khemet, they too tend to cut/shave their heads and wear wigs. (Not all do though, which you can see with some customs, and a few special coloured sphinxes.)
It was tradition for all priests to shave their heads, that is why the male priest class doesn't have hair. (I've never been sure about priestesses though.)
When I get a chance I'll make a size chart with a sphinx beside a human. I pictured them to be larger then lions. I would need to check size charts myself just to be sure, but I had thought of them as the average sphinx being about the size of a tiger.
The world setting for the sphinxes is much like a fantasy world, but the only native species to Khemet are humans (egyptian/african) dwarves (obsidian skinned, or more deformed looking like Bes) and a couple of animal-like races that I need to detail more (jackal people, cat people, etc). Khemet is a bit of a 'hot spot' for some merchants and travellers, so there are a few examples of other fantasy races, but they are not native to Khemet (but could nearly be considered it if they lived there for a generation or so). Elves, halflings, orcs, etc.. most typical fantasy race creatures can be seen in the busier cities. (Of course, humans and dwarves from other countries are in the same category of foreginers.) More frequently then not they are from the Medditeranian countries (Greece, Rome) the Middle East (Arabia, Babylon) or Asia (usually China). Sometimes there are even more exotic races (weither human or non-human) from even farther places, knights from a fantasy Britian for example, or nordic barbarians. I've always allowed people to rp one of the other races, if they so wish. (I've dallied with the idea of making extra adoptables for the other races, but don't really have the time for a full set with clothing and such. >.> )

I would really like to know some specifics on what certain priests and magicians can 'do.'
Take Zrarathi for instance. He's a cool-awesome necromancer...but I have no idea how he actually fits into the Sphinx world.
I'd like to know what magical and semi-magical abilities he has, limitations, where he fits into the scheme of things, etc.
All that kind of stuff.

I have a similar curiosity to Shayrah's, only in regards to my priest Noel. I hadn't originally expected to RP him, but since he is now married to Hetshepsit and I want to RP her I feel like I need to at least have a working profile for him. (Plus, I have some sketchy ideas, and if they work out, then I might quite like to RP him sometime.) As a priest, Noel is a bit of an odd Sphinx out, given that he does not worship any traditional Egyptian deity. If my memory of the auction is serving me right, the whole idea behind the unique Christmas costume as that it was Yuletide and possible druid related? I don't want you Pooka, or Mr. Pooka, to feel like you have to tell me exactly where he came from or what his powers/abilities might be, but if you could give me any suggestions for a place to start (or any websites with good Yuletide information) that would be most helpful. ^^

Well there is a short answer for both of these questions and some long answers... The short answer is really that its up to you. From a roleplaying perspective we simply want to open up opportunities for people to feel creative and go with what they know or look up.... within reason of course (I think I covered a common sence rule somewhere (-8)
Now the long answers are..... If your not sure where to start we have lots of great examples around our house and when I have a few moments I could type some stuff out for examples. For both Necromancers and Druids my first geeky stop would be my dungeons and dragons players handbook.... tons and tons (and tons and tons) of different spells, special powers and near RP tips to jumpstart the imagination.
To help funnel a few more questions into one answer... The world of Sphinxes is quite magical, in Fiction books it would fall into the catagory of High Fantasy. Magicians cast visable or flashy magic (well it could be subtle if they wanted, but everyone knows of and believes in magic) and priests are the conduits of gods and as such can perform they're own type of magic, more resembling miracles, like healing or warding off undead.
I think that sort of answers both questions. If not tell me and I'll try again. Also if either of you would like I could give lots of examples of what I would picture characters like these to be able to do if that would help!

Oh cool, that does help a little bit. Especially the "flashy" magic part. I had been wondering if it was an obvious and overt thing, or more subtle with quieter effects.
I personally would love to have ideas dumped on me or, better yet, have a discussion over some specifics for my character, since I'm more used to doing that from various offline roleplaying games. (whoo D&D and White Wolf!)
So yeah...if you're up for it, I'd love to talk more about Zraratha and his powers.
Also, I was wondering what the similarities and differences were between magicians and priests, in a social sense. Do magicians also live in the temple district? I've been saying that Zraratha lives there so far, but I don't know if this is accurate. What are magicians' relationship with the gods and the temples? Do they also play a part in some temple happenings? Do magicians and priests even get along? I know priests play a big part in public and private rituals and things...do magicians also have a similar role?

This sounds fantastic, though I don't currently have access to that book (not just that I don't currently own it, but that going out to buy it would require a 45 minute drive to the nearest city. Plus I'm cheap. XD ) I don't suppose the information in it is available online somewhere? I think that sort of answers both questions. If not tell me and I'll try again. Also if either of you would like I could give lots of examples of what I would picture characters like these to be able to do if that would help! If you're willing, that would be great Mr. Pooka! I really know next to nothing about traditional Yuletide celebrations and/or druids, so I kind of feel a bit like I'm stumbling around in the dark. Plus character development discussions can be loads of fun. ^^
