This is more of a 'fun fact' then an FAQ but its still interesting information for anyone who is curious for some behind-the-scenes Sphinxes information!
A huge part of what makes Sphinxes unique and different than most other adoptables out there is that they are changeable and upgradeable. ...add a pet, chance clothes/hair, accessorize, get a new job, change a trait, eat a cookie etc... Every lowly peasant has the chance to change almost everything about themselves and we are always adding new items to give even more options to modify them.
For this to happen behind the scenes for you we store every single Sphinx art file. They are backed up in several places routinely in order to ensure that we always have your information so we can make these changes. We have multiple backups stored on 5 computers, 3 different hard drives and a few places online just in case. Maintaining these files is incredibly important to this particular adoptable so we put a lot of work and effort into keeping these files safe and backed up! (Last time we went on a road trip for example, there were two complete backups that traveled across Canada with us just in case (so yes, there were technically hundreds of Sphinxes at the Calgary Stampede and cruising the highways of Canada!). One hard drive and one on a laptop. Another version was stored with family). We also used to burn Sphinx files to disk regularly but that is simply not as efficient as more modern storage for us.
...and to date things, the internet has changed quite a bit since when Sphinxes were created! We have gone through several incarnations of file sharing to collect the files from our team to back then up! We've used email and a few other private file sharing programs. We've even snail-mailed hard copies of Sphinxes burnt to disk! (for you youngsters out there, that's how your parents used to send 'emails', 'texts' and pay bills! Really! The person who delivers your Amazon orders used to actually perform the lowly job of hand carrying personal messages all across the world believe it or not!). We currently use a popular program called Dropbox with does the job very nicely. We have a team dropbox and some of our team artists maintain personal complete dropbox folders of their collections as an extra backup measure. This helps us make sure that Sphinx files created all around the world by our awesome team are all collected and backed up and kept safe!
We take Sphinx files very seriously around here! Having the original files allow us to do all the changes above and keep Sphinxes alive, (-8
