The Mystery of Doctor Vune
This Story Prompt will be closed at the end of this August (2016). You may still use it and play with the stories as you wish after this time for your own personal fun but there will be no more prizes after the posted date and the story itself might become more difficult to fit into more cannon Sphinxes timelines!
You will find that this Sphinx Story Prompt list is different then the standard prompts! There is a story here and on the surface it feels perhaps limiting and full of predetermined outcomes but it is more intended as an outline. Much like how great authors start with the ending and then trace out the narrative before writing an opening sentence, this prompt is only a very bare bones outline and it is what you do with it that can make it great! The prompts are meant to be viewed through whatever type of storytelling lens you prefer and to be interpreted as you see fit! You may follow the prompts almost exactly as written or you may try to push and bend the limits of the prompt however you need to tell YOUR story! Feel free to bleed one prompt into another if you find a suggestion limiting or to personalize the story.
This story prompt list is character/time sensitive and is only open for a limited time! You may complete it on your own after it is closed for fun and character development but the rewards are only available while this story is active. (EDIT: I had a close date but Pooka feels that it might not be enough time... so the ending date is still to TBA and I want to allow lots of time for quality!)

1. You are contacted by Rosemary the Reanimator and tasked with the job of finding her missing 'father' Doctor Vune. Why do you accept this job/are convinced to work for her? Fear? Threats? Offer of money or 'services'?
2. You learn of two locations that Rosemary feels might have clues. Doctor Vune's mansion in Crux and a vague clue about a possible hidden Laboratory, also in or near Crux.
3. When you try to investigate the mansion you find it occupied by monsters and cannot search it. Were you chased away? To frightened to enter? Broke in but then blacked out and woke up somewhere else with no memories? What kind of monsters?
4. You try to find the secret laboratory. Do you do research? Get totally lucky and stumble upon it? Get info from a shady figure who comes to you? Find out that you somehow already have memories of the lab through a dream or flashback?
5. You find the lab... and some of it's old experiments!

1. You find/awaken a creature that is somehow still 'alive' in a vat or attached to some strange machinery. It has a story to tell (or grunts a few harsh clues?) about hearing the Doctor talking about his secret Island. What becomes of the creature? Save/help it? Put it out of its misery? Try to escape from its rampage? Develop feelings for it? Wonder why something about it reminds you of a old lost love/family member?
2. You must do some searching or research to find information on the Island. There are many methods... Magic or Fortune Telling? Library/book research? Ask a Scholar or adventurer?
3. You find out that the Island is relatively near the city of Crux but is only visible on the days of the Full moon. You prepare to travel to and investigate the island. Do you need to hire help? Plan to use your own magic? Create and organized list of adventurer supplies?
4. You travel to the Island and find it hidden in the fog/mists. There are rocky beaches and it darkly treed. Weird howls and strange animal noise emanate from the woods... Was travel easy/hard? Are you having second thoughts now that you are there?
5. You adventure to the old plantation manor grounds, overcoming or sneaking past strange animal/Sphinx hybrids!

1. You meet and are welcomed in by Doctor Vune. This is most likely and odd or weird first meeting. He seems friendly but is ... eccentric. Why is this happening? Does he already know you or is he just welcoming/luring you? Do you suddenly recognise him (possibly with more flashbacks?)
2. You find yourself 'invited' to stay. Why can't/don't you refuse this offer? You're just polite? Paralyzed with fear? The small army of hybrid monsters outside are intimidating or forcibly stopping your escape?
3. You sit through or participate in a very strange dinner party. Are there more weird guests? What are you served and can you eat it? Everything is suspiciously normal but the conversation is awkward/personal or strange?
4. Late that night (or perhaps a couple of days into your stay) you find out something important about the doctor or the island. Were you snooping around? An overly friendly Sphinx with odd animal traits wants to help you and tell you things? You overhear a conversation or soliloquy?
5. You confront the Doctor with what you've found (convince him to stop? tell the hybrids and cause a rebellion? offer to join the Doctor in his plan?) or try to make your escape from the Island! Do you run when everyone is busy with a game/ritual/operation/event? Get help from a smitten hybrid? Cause a distraction?
Completion
1. What do you do with what you have learned? Actually complete your job and tell Rosemary to gain your reward? Feel that she might get in the way of the plans you might have made with the Doctor and lie about what you've learned? Plan to 'do something' about her? Make plans to stop them both from their dark experiments? Find yourself locked in a cage in Rosemary's laboratory as your true reward? Just get paid and run off the shop to buy a new pet bat?
