Happy Spring!? I've got a few messages in my inbox to get to and a couple of odds and ends to check on but I figured I'd start out with a hiya! I think Pooka and I more faded out than officially ended last years Heb as we bounced from one creativity smashing disaster to the next and it took a bit to recover. I'm just sort of getting things together now with a heaping pile of optimism, (-8
Catching up with the interesting stuff...
We didn't really do anything for the Yule holidays this year with the exception of buying a big box of assorted Dagashi online to go along with the ridiculously fun Anime/Pathfinder RP we've been doing. (Dagashi is basically small Japanese snacks, both sweet and savory, and the place we ordered from was great if anyone wants the details) We were also going to get KFC (the, more or less, official Japanese Christmas food) but the KFC in our town actually closed down permanently just before the holidays? I also made a Japanese style Christmas cake (sort of a sponge cake with whipped cream and strawberries) which was really nice, (-8
We have been doing an incredibly fun and epic Anime inspired RP involving several of the main characters children that I'll have to give more details on if anyone is interested! I wrote a whole overlapping game system to work with our pathfinder characters... sort of an Anime version of the mythic rules in order to play the kids with regular PF rules but also give them a cool Anime feel and its worked out better than I could have dreamed, (-8
On the same topic of Japan, combining a Japan themed game with an awesome box of Asian/Japanese themed treats we were gifted last year (thank you again!) I've delved deep into the world of Japanese food and I'll have to add a few of my favorite recipes to the recipe thread! Okonomiyaki is absolutely one of my favorite foods now and can't tell you how many we've eaten, (-8 (and I'm dreaming of pork loins being on sale again so I can make a ton more Chashu Pork for our Ramen...)
The cats have been happy, healthy and well! They were both pretty new last year when I couldn't stop talking about them, (-8 ...but they've evolved in their quirkiness... Chloe used to sleep near me but nowadays she always sleeps right on me but not until she's pranced all over me like a lipizzaner horse, mewing and purring. It's seriously the weirdest thing, she waits until she thinks I'm asleep then she dances all over me pounding her feet (ya, all four, not just her front paws) like I'm a boxing dummy (she really doesn't know her own strength I think) all the time purring super loudly and sometime meowing (something she rarely does outside of this bit of quirkiness) but only if she thinks I'm sleeping! If I dare to interrupt her but doing something like looking at her she just stops, stares at me and casually walks off to sleep on the pillow right beside me, (-8 she' so weird in all the right ways. She also has only one place she likes to be petted... not a body part, a literal place. Every morning she waits for me in the kitchen and purrs and lets me pet her which seems to make her happy for a minuted or two, then she just... stops? and that's it, my totally quota for petting her for the whole day, (-8 She'll still follow me everywhere and sit near me but if you dare touch her she'll do her absolute best grumpy cat look and if you continue she'll just leave.
Here's a fun Chloe pic where she is enjoying her victory in what I called the great box war...
I'd planned on spending a lot of the fall in the wilderness this year but I ended up throwing my back out early in the season... which sucked for wilderness adventure time I did end up watching a pile of awesome tv! I'll need to put up a thread about TV as well in the near future... we really do live in a golden age of digital storytelling! (I wonder how many around here even know of the 'early days' of tv, like creating networks of extra antenna's made out of coat-hangers in order to tune in and watch blurry cartoons...)
either way I got a couple of cool pics in my early fall adventures...
hiking the mississagi river...
cool mushrooms...
and here's a neat one!
I know, I know, a chewed up mushroom in a tree, what's neat about that? Well, its neat to me! (-8 This is actually a really neat animal fact about red squirrels! You see red squirrels actually 'farm' these kind of mushrooms and then stick them up in trees in the fall so they dry in the sun and become a sort of mushroom leather as a winter food source! They will start new farms when they move to a new area but intentionally putting all the mushrooms they can find in a close cluster of trees so the spores all drop down for next years crop. I love finding these mushroom farm areas... you're just wandering the forest when you come on these huge patches of mushrooms and the trees are all decorated with hundreds of drying mushrooms... just makes me happy to find them, (-8
So that's it for the fall but there is this bad picture... 15 feet of show outside my kitchen window. I know it's spring for lots of you but we've still got TONS of snow from this year...
speaking of snow...
a few years ago some of you may remember that our mall literally caved in (and we just missed it!) well this year we had another one! This one collapsed under the weight of this years snow. yikes Elliot Lake... I've mentioned to a few people that we don't need signs warning of people of bears, we need them to warn outsiders our public buildings...
I think that is most of the catching up! I hope everyone has been well and would love to hear if anyone has (or has had) anything interesting going on!
We've got some cool stuff coming up for this years Heb... we're planning on revisiting something major and awesome that got put off due to PI a couple of years ago... I'm super excited to show off some of the treats that have been waiting to get out there!
