MAJOR SPOILERS WARNING! If you haven't watched all of the Game of Thrones series and don't want to see spoilers, don't read this thread. So many of us have been trying to chat about the GoT finale without giving away spoilers, so here is a safe place to chit chat without having to dance around spoilers in the main thread. ^_^

While watching the finale I had an idea of what may occur, and Mr. Pooka loved it and thought it would happen as well as a twist. But it never did.
John Snow is a Targaryen, and some true Targaryens are immune to fire... as Daenerys proved at the end of season one when she didn't burn. It had been noted that many in the bloodline were immune to burning, which she commented on when her brother had his melted gold 'crown' poured on him. She said 'he was no dragon.' (or something like that. ^^; I'm quoting from memory.)
Now... what I had expected was for Daenerys to try to execute Snow.. in her typical fashion of dragon fire. When she tried to execute him that the flames would lick over him with no harm, and he would stand there showing that he was a true Targaryen. The people would have been outraged and freaked out by Daenerys' slaughter of the innocents in the city and it would have been a big part of putting Snow on the throne. Mind you, it was too obvious for him to be on the throne so I didn't know where they would have gone with something like that. But I honestly did expect him to be blasted by fire and walk out unscathed.
When he killed Daenerys and the dragon breathed I had waited for my thought of him not being burned. But instead it... slagged the throne? What?! What the hell?! That made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!! At least it made no sense to me, maybe somebody could explain that. Why in the world did this semi-intelligent dragon decide to ruin the throne. In spite because his mother died? But, it never showed the dragons to be that intelligent for him to really think 'Hey, if she can't have it, nobody can have it.'. So, why in the world did he do that?
Oddly we had jokingly predicted Bran becoming king. It was more that we were trying to call up whoever could be left over (and please please please not Sanza! OMG we found her so unlikable!) But while we were trying to figure out the dregs of who was left Bran had come to mind... but not seriously. We had (seriously) thought it would be Gendry Baratheon being that he was another rightful heir. He would have made a decent, humble and kind king as well.
But anyhow, that's my initial 2 cents on the finale. What did you guys think?

I think I should start a petition for Dave to win the Game of Thrones! He's kind of got it all...
Really though I felt they only picked that particular character because they were trying to go with the least likely person. Even the speech Tyrion gave about needing someone with a good story... there were way better stories just sitting there I think. Like Davos for one. ...but you can also see where they killed off everyone else who had cool stories in the last couple of episodes (like Jorah, Beric, Varys or Missandei for example) so this plot sort of worked?
Generally I liked the last season though, I don't really have any complaints, (-8

This is the only ending I'd be satisfied with... I need to start my own petition.

My boyfriend and I were gobsmacked when Tyrion started implying that Bran should be king - we actually found it hysterical. Like, this guy who isn't even in the real world/present moment half the time should rule the seven kingdoms? He just doesn't seem like the kind of person who possesses the right kind of strength (physical or mental) for that enourmous task of rebuilding everything... and he also doesn't seem like the kind of person who would inspire very much fear OR love in his people (which GoT has shown us is pretty necessary to have both in a ruler.) So I was just in shock when Tyrion started saying that they should choose the person with the best STORY to be King, COMPLETELY skipping over Jon who has by far the best story imo, AND better yet even has a far better legitimate claim to it than Bran. AND already inspires a LOT of love and devotion in a LOT of people. I mean, perhaps it makes sense that Tyrion didn't mention Jon as a potential candidate for the throne, given that he was sort of considered a criminal at that point for killing Dany... but if that is the case, why would Tyrion expect anyone to allow HIM to make THE BIGGEST and most important decision EVER (of who should rule) when he TOO was considered a criminal at that point?? I was amazed that anyone even heard him out while he was in his handcuffs, let alone decided to unanimously follow his (pretty bizarre) suggestion unquestioningly. Literally nothing added up to me. And it made me extremely annoyed that the epicness of Jon's story and legitimate claim that they built up, ultimately came to nothing when he just went back to the Nightswatch again at the end. AFTER ALL THAT. It just felt like it rendered that whole amazing backstory of his that they'd set up so well in the previous episodes, pointless. Because he literally just ended up back at square one, as if nothing had ever happened. Ultimately I think I personally wanted to see Jon end up on the Iron Throne at the end - but at the very least, I would have LOVED to have seen them do something with his character like Pooka's idea, where he gets excecuted by fire and ends up unscathed. Like, literally just ANYTHING to have given us some sort of payoff for his true lineage that was SUCH a big deal in former episodes. I loved this season, just like I would have loved anything GoT would have given us! I particularly liked The Long Night episode. But I just couldn't help feeling really let down by this finale for a looot of different reasons :/

all good points! I wasn't a big Jon fan, (he was a nice guy and always tried hard but mostly just seemed to float from scene to scene having 'things' happen to him... I'm not explaining that right..) but I wouldn't have complained if we won. Pooka just mentioned, and I agree, I think I like it a little less more each time I think of it as better and better options and ideas keep coming up. It's just a weird choice..
also!
