Everything about Wigs and Hairstyles!There is nothing like a change of hairstyle to help personalize your Sphinx!
So, how do you change your Sphinxes hair? Well, most commonly, hairstyles are changed with job upgrades (most jobs have a set hairstyle that comes with the costume) and the second most common method is with a Wig voucher or item which looks like this;
or
Just a couple of history notes...
(There might be some slightly different looking vouchers or wig animation tokens still in some inventories that work just the same as these. Also for a historical note, nearly a decade ago when I first started running shops we were going to sell individual wigs, possibly a different price points, so there are still a few single wig images also in some inventories which nowadays work just like a wig voucher.)
When you use a Hair changing item or voucher you may ask for a simple one colour swipe change. (Mr. Pooka does 99% or these so sending a Hex code or eye dropper-able colour Image will get you the best results. If you simply ask for blue I'll just use my Hex code charts and grab the code for blue. I don't do 'could you make it look nice with her colours/costume etc...' being colour blind that is just a recipe for a sitcom like hair dye disaster.)
Wig Vouchers and items can be used to choose any of the wigs below with the exception of
Prestige Wigs.
Prestige Wigs will only be available under special circumstances (such as during certain events, or times of the year or perhaps with special vouchers).
(*Mr. Pooka Note... this is a new change but it won't come into effect until we start the next Heb~Bastet. Until then you can still add any wig listed as a Prestige wig to a Sphinx using standard items/vouchers)Wig and Hairstyle FAQs and NotesDoes my Wig have to match my job? - No! When a Sphinx gets a job upgrade I try to leave any already unique/changed/personalized wigs as they are. If they do have a standard job wig that is coloured I usually try to match the colour to the new wig. You may also request to keep a current wig specifically when getting a job upgrade.
Examples;
1 - A peasant with the standard peasant wig gets a job upgrade and becomes a scribe. I'd upgrade the class/costume, add the new wig and try to match the hair colour.
2 - A pirate Sphinx who already has a 'Curly Pigtails' wig gets a job upgrade to become a Pirate Captain. I'd upgrade the class/costume but leave the Curly Pigtails just as they are. Of course you can request to have her hair changed to the Pirate Captain as well if you'd like!
Can I change my Sphinxes hair colour? - Yes! A Sphinx's hair colour may be changed during various events just as Refashioning as well as with the Dye Item.
(there will be more details about how the dye item works in the items section! I'll add a link here when I get that all set up, (-8)
Can I also change the wig on my Greek/Netjer/etc. Sphinx? - Yes! All wig items work for all species/breed/types of Sphinxes adoptables, (-8
Can my Greek Sphinx get an Egyptian wig or can my Male Egyptian Sphinx get a Female Egyptian wig? - No. Wigs are not interchangeable between different types of Sphinxes and they don't simply flip for different options either... A few wigs have been made to work like that but they are either one offs (ie. not templated) or have been fixes as a special project and in that case, it will be added to the sample options below.
Can I mix two different wigs together to get something new? - No. This is sometimes asked for during customs but is not usually an option for a bunch of technical reasons. You might see some examples of this out there but these are only usually created as special pre-made Sphinxes, usually by Mr. Pooka who is always messing with stuff in ways that were not intended, (-8. It is often easier to draw and template a whole new wig rather than mix two preexisting wigs.
What about Beards!? - Most beards and various facial hair come as a set with hair that works for them... that being said, most beards and facial hair sets can be added to many different hairstyles and work just fine (I'd estimate about 85%). Although, just for fun, I want to make a manly mustache animation like the wig item, a Wig Voucher or Item can be used to add a beard to a Sphinx as long as I can make it work and look good.
If you choose a hairstyle that comes with a beard it all comes together as a set. You may ask to not have one part though if you choose (like the Viking hair without the beard, or just the beard and no hair.)
Adding a new beard to a different existing wig costs a Voucher or item. For example you own a standard cowboy Sphinx but would like him add a viking beard.
I've Found a wig on someone's Sphinx that is not in the samples, can I have it? - Maybe? Not all wigs are available for many reasons. Some wigs are custom made (probably via customs or as a special premade). Some wigs are frankened up by Mr. Pooka and are not recreatable. Some wigs have been retired or semi-retired (ie. need a tweak or fix to make them work a bit better). Also there are TONS of wigs out there and I might just have missed a few that should be on the list! There is a link in the very first post of this thread to the 'Can I Have That' thread where you can ask me about any specific wig.
Not all Wigs and Hairstyles work with every trait, items and costumes! This is usually just a matter of common sense but sometimes we can find fun workarounds.
If your flapper with cool purple hair becomes an assassin (which is a story that I am super curious about btw) her hair will become covered up. Not every wig fits well under a cowboy hat (though I could take that hat off or perhaps place it by their feet with a Wig voucher upgrade).
