An update of yesterday: I went into work today, after getting confirmation from Deb that yes, I was still on shift for today, and the one person from yesterday was there. She didn't say anything to me the entire day, but she was in a jovial mood with our morning manager and the one guy who runs grill til 1 or puts truck away on Tuesday and Fridays. Thankfully neither of them had been informed of what had happened because said manager and the other guy weren't grilling me for information. So I knew they hadn't heard what happened. The one girl who is my back five person had called out, I never asked why, so all I knew was that I had no back five person. Okay, I can do this. I got to stocking, but was then informed that there weren't going to be a lot of people in. Not great. It was myself, Kendia, and the two non-helpers. Erin had come in to do something, but then she was gone after maybe an hour, but informed us that one of the other girls would be in and she'd be in back five. Cool. What happens? The girl comes in and Cheryl puts her on front register instead of back five!! What the heck?! Great, so I'm still taking orders, taking payment, getting drinks, bagging orders and doing fries and nuggets. Between Aliyah and myself, we were running fries and nuggets station more than anyone else. It was throwing us off because we were getting slammed with large orders pretty much all freaking day!
Finally when Kendia came in, she did something in the office and then I heard the sound of the printer behind me. Someone had just been assigned to back register. Kendia had assigned herself. Okay, a bit of relief. Still not much help, but it was a little help. Then around 2, two more people came in, but I knew they weren't going to be any help at all. They both have attitudes and don't like to help me out if they're assigned to coordinating in drive thru. Well Kendia gave them their spots and yup...one was assigned to coordinate for drive thru, the other for the front, but they had to empty trash first. They took their time and when they got around to being on location, the person supposed to be bagging orders for me...wasn't!! UGH!! So I'm still running around like I had been before. Finally around 2:45, it actually died down. It got to the point that I got the one drink out, there was nothing on the screen other than his order. I went to the back and Kendia was at the sink and I said 'Kendia, I need to step into the walk in for a moment, I'm getting a little over heated. I just have one order on the screen, the guy has his drink, he's just waiting on his food' and she said 'okay'. I went into the walk in for two minutes and cooled off, then got another car. I walked out...and the person from before was still sitting at the window waiting on his food!!! It wasn't bagged or handed out!! WTF?!?! I'm pissed now. So I bagged it and handed it out. I took the next order and...of course...the person was speaking Spanish. So I hit the button and, in the very few phrases that I know, I said 'I don't speak Spanish'. Well I got someone on the other end that did speak English, so he spoke the order. I got it down and took another couple of orders. Part of the one order was three chili cheese fries. What happened? The person made them, but never put lids on them or bothered to bag the rest of the order!!! Okay, this is ridiculous!!! So I walked off line.
Yup, I literally walked away from the corner and went to the back as if I was getting something. What did I do? I tucked myself into a bit of a hidden spot and took a few deep breaths before I blew up. Next thing I know, I hear Kendia going 'What's the hold up? What are we waiting on? Nothing? Then why is this car still on the pad? What is she waiting on? Her food? Then why isn't it bagged?' Ooooooo she was laying into them. I was in the back listening to it and smirking. Here's the thing...I gave them the drinks, but they needed the food. I'm supposed to just be taking orders and getting drinks now since I had someone who was supposed to be coordinating for me. I'm not going to do their job. Kendia kept going with them and I came out from my spot, grabbed a sleeve of cups that...yea, I did need...and went back out to my position as Kendia's handing out the food. She saw me coming back and said 'find what you needed?' and I said 'yea, they were hidden among the other stuff'. She knew what I was doing.
Now here's where my day gets brightened and made me tear up a little, but in a happy way. A woman placed an order and I said her total and first window. She totally skipped the first window, so I opened the window and said 'sorry ma'am, first window please' and she said 'oh! sorry!!' and backed up. Kendia took the payment, I got the drink and bagged the order as my coordinator had disappeared. No shocker there. So I handed the woman the drink and handed her the bag. Next thing I know...she's handing me some yellow chrysanthemums and saying 'these are for you, have a nice day!' with a smile. I accepted them and my heart just...fluttered and I said 'thank you so much'. She smiled a little more and I'm just...standing there holding these flowers and I can feel tears at the corners of my eyes. Even though yellow chrysanthemums are a symbol of neglected love or sorrow...it was like a reflection of yesterday. I was in so much heart ache yesterday because of what happened, but in receiving the flowers, they made me smile and feel a lot better and despite the color meaning, I felt better because they reflected how beautiful today was with the bright blue, cloudless sky and the sun shining brightly.
So I closed the window, took one of the new junior frosty cups we have in, put some water in it, put a lid on it and put the flowers in the water and let them sit on the counter where we keep the coffee maker, iced tea canister holders and the other sink. It made me feel better. The two non-coordinators saw the flowers at one point and the one went 'where did those come from?!' and I said 'the one customer gave them to me' and she went 'awwwww, that's so sweet!!' and it was in a genuine tone. I...was still surprised. At one point I did take them to the break room so I wouldn't forget them. I saw Deb this afternoon when I was taking the safe slip back to the office and she said 'I sent it all to Jen, but since I wasn't here when it happened, it's in Jen's hands, but I really think it's going to go in your favor because I've come to see the kind of person you are and believe you'd never do such a thing and Jen has known you longer and I can see that she likes you as much as I do, so I really believe this will go in your favor'. So there's a really good chance that I'm safe, but I'm still on pins and needles til I hear further. Deb also saw the flowers and smiled. I told her a customer gave them to me and she said 'awww, that was sweet of her. I can see it brightened your day' and I said 'it really did'. I left and carried the flowers home with me, sniffing at them now and then. When I got home, mom unlocked the door and she saw the flowers and went 'oh those are pretty!' and I told her and she went 'that was nice'. They are currently sitting on the video cabinet in the living room where I know they'll get the late afternoon sun.
So...for now I'm safe, but with what Deb said...there's a good feeling, but I'm going to wait and if Jen says anything further, I'll be waiting for it.
