We really liked the place! As usual it has some flaws that we're trying to figure out if we can deal with. It's also a twelve hour drive away which is quite the move!!
It's in our price range, and we like this city so far, so the day after tomorrow when we're home we may be calling to confirm the pre approved mortgage. Hopefully it's not snatched up by then. It's the same deal around here, it's really hard to get a home and the prices skyrocketed over the last year. 😑 We've been searching for a new home for years now.

TN is a really LONG state. I wonder how long it'd take from end to end. To google maps I go. Looks like 8 hours from the east end to the west end.

I'm glad Pooka had a chance to catch everyone up, I felt bad dropping everything because we had to really go! ...and even though I love driving, that much driving in a couple of days can wear me out. I also wish we could have stopped to take more pictures, but again we were on a time crunch... The highway between the Sault and Thunder Bay is truly one of the prettiest and best drives in all of Canada. I love that stretch of road, it's full of rocky forests, lake views, waterfalls.... just constant amazing vistas. It could be called the 'highway of a million screensavers' (-8 The next couple of days will be all phone calls and appointments to make our offer so we've still got our hands full for a bit... hopefully I'll have a better eta or info on more custom slots and trades. That's so exciting, Pooka! Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys today! If we get it, we're right by an airport and will only be a two day drive to Calgary, (-8

Buying a house has changed by ridiculous amounts the last two years, especially the sort of house we want. I can give a super dramatic example. Just before the Pandemic, two summers ago, there was a site I checked every week (cheap houses in northern Ontario, a site that compiles listing from almost every other site) and there were about 40 pages of houses to scroll through. Because of all the options we were way more picky then we should have been... Now, two years later, on the same site it rarely hits 2 pages now. On top of the insane city price rises, there was def a pandemic craze of people fleeing the cities to get away from others. I feel that there will be a surge of these places for sale again over the next several years, but our current house is a bit of a nightmare (it was a mess when bought it but it was all we could afford at the time and we were in better health and could keep up with the upkeep) so we really need to move!
There is also a (nightmare!) company in Toronto that is currently spending a billion dollars on buying every cheap house that hits the market to turn them into expensive rental units... and no one can compete with them! (I presume all of their board meetings take place in hidden basements, require black robes and a sacrifice...)
So, keep your fingers crossed for us, (-8 We're going to sell half of everything we own and toss our entire life savings at this one and hope there is a enough things wrong with the place that no one else wants it, (-8
