Captain's Log
23rd day of Peret Pharmuthi
Today was filled with hope then calamity and woe, then... relief.
Our lookout spotted a small flotilla of ships on the horizon. I called judgment that we would take a risk and sail towards them in hopes that they had supplies they could trade or give us some bearings of where we were.
Of course with the luck we were experiencing they turned out to be pirates.
There was a desperate sea battle! We were outnumbered, boarded and lost the rest of our ships! Closing in were yet two more ships flying black flags... our aggressors had even more aid coming. It seemed hopeless, all was lost, until the two new pirate ships took arms against the original pirates that besieged us!
The two new pirate ships turned the tide of battle! They appear to have great skill and powerful magic on their side. When the battle abated the former fleet of trading ships was now whittled down to only my vessel. The attacking pirate ships were sunk from the battle, yet the two ships that came to our rescue, the Dark Dagger and the Deceit, were barely scathed and easily patched.
The captain of the Dark Dagger, the owner of both ships, introduced himself as Captain Just, and his first mate (and wife) the Pirate Princess Riley. I was taken aback by possible nobility, and wondered if it was just a playful title until I learned that she was the daughter of the notorious Pirate Queen Alexia. Just has mentioned that he is a priest of a deity of thievery but considered himself a 'gentleman pirate' and preferred to leave his targets afloat with enough supplies to survive.
Thankfully these pirates took mercy upon us. I told them of our tragic tale and how my crew would not survive much longer due to our supplies now having run out. Once making sure that he claimed every coin and item of value Captain Just magically refilled our barrels with fresh water and created a meal from his prayers.
The Pirate Captain and the Pirate Princess went aside, most likely to discuss the offer he gave next. We were too far out to sea for an easy return home, yet... they knew of a closer land where we could restock our supplies for the long journey, and possibly even find rare and precious items for trade. A land the likes of which we have never seen.
So now we set sail with the Dark Dagger in the lead and I am grateful to whatever deity has shown us goodwill when we needed it the most. Whenever I once again have coin I shall make an offering to the deity that Just is a priest of... just in case.
I hope that they won't force us to become pirates as well.
