They are known as gentle giants, right? Beautiful dogs but not a breed I can care for.
I've got 2 12 pound Shih tzus and sometimes *they* drag me around!

If I recall it's used for the Irish Wolfhound as well. I got to work with a couple in High School. Wonderful dogs

Serves me right for going off memory 😆 I stand by it though. A neighbor had to babysit one when we were kids. It was taller then I was!

Irielynn: Now you've got it! There is something called ‘lenition’ which is the softening or silencing of letters with the use of a ‘h’. In the name ‘Siobhán’, the ‘b’ is softened by the ‘h’ causing it to be pronounced like ‘shuh-wan’ or ‘shi-vawn’. The ‘v’ sound is the more common pronunciation. So in short, the ‘b’ in siobhán isn’t pronounced due to the ‘h’ beside it! Clear as an Albion spring day! Rajan considered this, but didn't seem like he was particularly fond of the whole concept. "Alright but what about the first part? The s-i-o making a shi sound?" Irielynn: Perhaps I can clear some things up with a few more names. I'm sure you'll get it with a bit of practise! Lets look at some of these super simple pronunciations... just read the name to yourself then check the pronunciation below and you'll be on your way! Meadhbh
Mave
Saoirse
Sor sha
Pádraig
Paw-rig
Niamh
Neeve
Ailbhe
Alva
Cillian
Kill-ee-an
Caoilfhionn
Key lan
Irielynn: See? Nothing to it!

I've never personally encountered a wolfhound IRL. I have seen a couple being walked over the years (I was in the car though).

I've gotten to pet a Wolfhound, someone usually brings one to the Celtic fair up north of me. :3 Huge dogs, but so sweet!

I can say having helped train one for agilty they are a lot of fun. They are fast. I have heard them called the Irish Greyhound due to their speed. They are speedy and powerful.

Gentle giant is mainly used with great danes, but given the wolfhound's size, I suppose it could be used for them as well XD
I'll add another name in there. Siabhra, which I've seen it pronounced either as Sheefra, Shee-a-vra or Shee-a-wra
Siabhra glances around. "Yes? Who spoke my name?"
I did, but only using it for an example
Siabhra nods. "Oh, I see."

I'll throw Shih Tzu in the mix of words that don't sound like they are said.
The correct pronunciation is she- zoo 🙂

I have recently learned we have a few Irish wolfhounds locally (they just go to a different clinic), when we had a few very obvious wolfhound mixes show up
Apparently, someone’s intact male got out, and bred with a catahula, so we have some merle colored wolfhound coated (and sized) mixes showing up. Enough of them have shown up now though, if varied enough ages, I think a few of the litters were deliberate, after the first ‘accident’
Edit: they’ve all been very nice dogs
