 Welcome to the Heb~Bastet! the Sphinx TeamMr. Pooka - manager, colourist, co-owner PookaWitch - creator, main artist, colourist, templater, co-owner Jeanstarwind - colourist Operetta - Invaluable Organizer, colourist Heb-Bastet means 'Bastet Festival' On the April 15th we started celebrating a month long festival dedicated to Bastet.
All are invited to attend the Heb-Bastet, noble or peasant, sphinx, netjer or whatever you are. It shall be a time of merriment, selling of wares, jokes, eating, drinking, and of course the reverence towards the nefer netjer (good goddess) Bastet!
 Sahret: Hey hekenmess! (Hello Friends!) The Seventeenth Annual Heb~Bastet Sphinx Celebration has been in full sway for a couple of weeks now and we thank you for joining us. Those of you who attended the previous festivals may remember me, and for the newcomers I shall introduce myself: I am Sahret and along with Selene IV am a hostess of this festival. So far this Heb has been progressing without a hitch! Wait, maybe I shouldn't mention that, it could jinx things. *Sahret motions towards her clowder of cats* As always I have brought along my little darlings to participate, but I do have a new love to add to my collection of cats. They're a special breed of cat from a land near Albion! Those little folded ears are just too adorable. We also have an exciting opportunity! Some years past foreign sphinxes brought the celebration of Beltane to Ahket, but now we have a pair of sphinxes who have brought an open invitation to a wedding in Inisfail where the celebration originally came from! Cattleya: "Hello everybody! As Sahret said, we're here with an open invitation to a Beltane Royal Wedding happening in Inisfail today! I love Beltane, and love, and weddings... and a marriage for love on Beltane is just... eeee!" she wiggles with delight, barely able to hold back her joy.  Irielynn: Cead mile failte! It's time to away with Leprechauns, castles, good luck and laughter and our kind Portal Witch Mayolin is ready to whisk us there in a dash! A thousand welcomes when anyone comes…  Selene IV: A wedding you say? Seems only fitting as the last two weeks have been a constant spiritual bachelorette party! ...and I don't have near enough freckles in my closet... Stray Cats
Sahret: Hey hekenmess, hello friends. Bastet has deemed to bless us with sacred cats who are roaming around Ahket.
They look much like my new darling here.
Perhaps Bastet will take notice of you and bless you with one of her cats.

About the Stray Cats
During the Heb~Bastet, at the Temple of Bastet, stray cats are seen to wander around. These cats already have a name, and if they hear their name said they will come forth to be with the person who 'called' them. If there are stray cats in an event there will be a warning at the top of the thread letting you know. Ie: *Stray cats have been seen around this event/thread* If there are stray cats in a thread, and you happen to say their name (sometimes they're in another language and their meaning will pull them out) during your posting, the cat will respond and come to you. It can be made a pet for your sphinx, or kept to wait for when you have a sphinx to care for it. Basically it is a 'secret word' game. (A word search to check the threads that have stray cats in them.) Stray Cat Rules~ It will be announced in a thread when a certain artist's stray cats are around, and another note posted when that artist has finished their game (ie. not watching the thread any longer). ~ Only 1 stray cat from each artist can be won per person for the 'secret word' games. (this does not include cats won from other events, just the 'secret word' stray cat game.) ~ Spelling matters! Since a program is being used to find the word posted, if the word is miss-spelled it will be overlooked. So, to be fair - spelling counts. ~ Please note that this is supposed to be in the event of a 'normal post'. So no posts of just name lists in an attempt to call over a cat. ~ Editing posts is fine, but no going back to edit a post after cats have been won in an attempt to make it seem as if you had posted that word first. After the page has the word search completed and winners announced, any edits just to make it seem as if you said the winning name/word before the page was searched will disqualify you. ~ There are other artists with stray cats, and another list of names - with each of us not pre-knowing the names the other was using. So there could be repeats of words/names ~Although some names have many meanings, there is a pre-chosen, exact word that is being used for the cats in this game. (Ie. A cat could be named 'Sebyet', which is Khemetic for 'teacher', and the word 'teacher' would bring out that cat.) |

5. The Wedding of Aoibhe and Teague While hunting with his Fianna battle companions, Teague spotted the most lovely of women riding a great white horse. Her ears were gracefully pointed, her fur flawless and her flowing hair seemed made of silver! One could feel she was otherworldly!
Teague pawed right over and introduced himself to Aoibhe and she in turn invited Teague to ride with her....
They courted and frolicked for months and eventually Aoibhe invited her love to go with her to Tír na nÓg though warning that he could never return if he agreed! Unable to abandon his duties and family, he refused, albeit with heavy heart. Aibhe was deeply saddened but her love prevailed and she decided to stay in the local lands herself to remain with Teague.
One year later there came to be a legendary wild Beltane wedding with warriors and locals from all across Inisfail along with visiting ethereal nobles from Tír na nÓg. It was a magical affair!
Over the whirlwind year Aoibhe could feel her powers slowly fading... living in the mortal realms was having it's toll upon her immortal self. She had decided to share her powers with her truest love for he had proven time and time again to be a kind, honest and true soul and she knew she could trust him with this gift.
On their wedding day she promised to give Teague any three things that he asked for... anything could be made possible with her lingering powers!
Just as she had thought, Teague did not take the gift lightly and chose to ponder carefully his choices...
That evening he wished that the lands of their kingdom would always be fertile to provide grains and meat for the people of Caitbaile. Aoibhe smiled and a portion of her immortal powers filtered into the land. "All that grows here will grow hearty and strong my love" she said.
Teague had a serious thought later in the night. With their lands so blessed others would become jealous and he needed a way to protect the lands for their people, now and in the future. "I wish for a truly mighty weapon that can fell any creature who tries to steal or harm our lands!" Aoibhe felt another third of her natural powers leave her body and coalesce into a long shafted silver spear covered in spirals and runes of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Never had Teague seen such a beautiful weapon! "This king's spear will rival even the mightiest weapons of the Tuatha Dé Danann or even the Aos Sí, my love." Aoibhe said, a little exhausted but truly happy in her new husbands wise choices.
Protection and Bounty were already the most otherworldly and spectacular gifts that Teague could think of. Lesser Sphinxes may have asked for treasures or excess of many kinds but there was very little that Teague could desire in his imagination beyond what he already had.
Teague watched the the wedding celebration with pride and wonder. Dancers capered around fires and even the Tuatha Dé Danann participated. The feasting tables were bursting with the finest local foods as well as truly exotic gifts brought by the Tuatha Dé Danann from Tír na nÓg. He lay on his checkered blanket with Aoibhe at his side and he could not be happier. "I wish this day would never end." He said lovingly.
Aoibhe's face recoiled in shock followed by fear and anger!
Aoibhe could feel her remaining powers ripped unwillingly from her soul!
Bursting from the earth where they sat, a tree sprouted, growing as if years passed in seconds. It's great silver branches reached for the sky and those very branches were filled to brimming, heavily laden with both red and golden apples!
"How could you!" Aoibhe screamed at the confused Teague before she began to cry at the base of the tree!
Several locals smiled as the silver tree appeared and wondered what delightful magic the Tuatha Dé Danann had bestowed upon this already magical Beltane.
Several of the Immortals called out... some in fear, others in anger and some as if in pain!
The night turned to chaos. Angry Tuatha Dé Danann attacked the locals and there was a brief explosion of fighting before the one of the visiting kings blew his mighty horn, recalling the visitors to him... and off they rode into the night, leaving most confused.
Teague asked his love what he had done and she took a breath to pause her weeping and trembling. "You've stolen the Tree of Eternal Youth from the High King of Tír na nÓg..."
Aoibhe looked upon her love one last time and dreamed of things that could have been before summoning her magical white steed and racing off into the night. |

6. Inisfail and Beltane Information Lore Drawn from the Thread Irelynn: This one seems to be a tangle, but let me sort that tangle into a lovely Celtic Knot for you! There are TWO main places to consider; One - The lands of Inisfail. This is the ground you stand on now and what you would see in this place if you were looking at a map of the world. Two - The Otherworld. The Otherworld is a land of magic that overlaps with Inisfail. In some places it may seem identical, or with minor changes but other places there may be whole different both geographically and metaphysically. There are three main realms inside of the Other world with territory controlled by the Tuath De Danann, Fairies and Fomorians. There are also many many other wild and magical places in the Otherworld and there is no map, nor could one probably be created. ------ There are FOUR main tribes of peoples in Inisfail; The People of Inisfail live in our world and are made up many kingdoms as well as a few wild places. These tend to be primarily Sphinxes though Netjer and and other creatures may also be considered from this land. The most common Sphinx traits of Inisfail are of the Lion! Common Sphinxes and the Heroes of Lore make up most of the People of Inisfail. The Tuath De Danann live in their realm in the Otherworld. They are originally (probably) made of up perfect Sphinxes, also with Lion traits though many many fairy traits and traits associated with nobility, magic and some otherworldly mythologies are also common among them. Immortals make up most of the Tuath De Danann and several Gods are considered to be part of this tribe. The Fairies live in their own realms in the Otherworld. From Pixies to Sphinxes with fairy traits, to satyrs and centaurs, the fairies are much harder to pin down when it comes to form and trait. Some fairies look like any other Sphinx you may meet in your travels while others are wildly exotic, or even shape change into different creatures. The Fomorians also rule a place in the Otherworld, though they have also taken land in Inisfail at times. They are the monsters and villains of lore... Fomorian literally means 'from the sea' and some of them bear underwater creature traits, though several bloodlines are wildly different and when many conjure the thoughts of Fomorians the first picture in their mind is that of a misshapen giant. Historical examples include one eyed giants, dripping finned trolls, goat headed monsters and... spectacularly beautiful Sphinxes. As a people they are hard to define but as a culture they are usually consider the villains. A good note to remember is that the above are like Tribes, not races or species. They may have some common ancestors and traits to match, but over time tribes change, evolve, marry and participate in wild Beltane rites which can vastly change any outward appearance. --------- Now, to further entangle this knot, know that each group above is a very very simple generalization. One might meet a Fairy who looks like a Lion Traited Sphinx, a Fomorian Orc, Goblin or Harpy, a Tuath De Danann Fairy and more. Many people will consider traits of certain types to have come from one of those bloodlines, but over the centuries, marriage, love, romance, alliance, conquered kingdoms, switched allegiances and so many more things of import have happened and it is difficult and far from proper to judge someone's appearance and try to categorize them! Not all Fomorians are bad (probably), many Sidhe/Elves consider themselves part of the Tuath De Danann (as well as fairies), Some normal people have been invited to live with the Tuath De Danann and no small amount of people seem to be taken to live with the fairies and return changed! ((an OOC note! This all fits our mythology and is fairly close to real world myths, history and legends... but academics do and will argue about some of the terminology! Many fictions cross over the Tuath De Danann with the Fairies as well as Gods, Fomorians are most often misshapen monsters but also sometimes Goat headed bad guys are beautiful seductresses or sometimes the are just thought to be Vikings. Sidhe is the most common form of Celtic elf like creature in most of my own books, though there is a push to change the terminology to Aos Si... sort of... long story short, don't trust me, or Wikipedia if you are writing a report or novel, (-8 ...but I could point you in the right direction!)) |

7. Kingdoms, Tribes and Places in Inisfail There are dozens of territories scattered across the lands of Inisfail, each with their own personality and character, just waiting to be created and explored! ─── ･ ｡ﾟ☆: *.☽ .* :☆ﾟ. ─── The Wolf Queen of AiritechAiritech was a wild Amazonian Queendom and a long standing matriarchy ruled by predominantly wolf-blooded women, usually warriors, though a few witches or enchantresses have ruled in the past.
This Queendom is known for it's cunning and ferocious warriors and Sphinxes with wolf blood are common. Some in traits, a few in spirit and some elite members are full shape changers. It is also common to dress like or wear wolf totems of various sorts, particularly into battle!
The Queen's law forbids hunting wolves and they are thought to be related to the Sphinxes... Wild wolves do take a toll on livestock and occasionally people but the queen herself pays a compensatory reward for these losses. Not that there is much livestock kept here as the Sphinxes of Aritech are more known for warriors, mercenary work and raiding rather then being the greatest of farmers.
Many young warrior women spend their Banfennid years working as mercenaries or adventuring in distant and exotic lands, fighting in the armies of Khemet to raiding the small island nations of Hanashima and recently even participating in the intertribal games hosted by the Star Nation. Often they return with diverse learnings in the ways of war and often practise more exotic classes and bear exciting new weapons and gear! These wandering Banfennid also often return home followed by smitten young farmers who are considered a boon in their communities as most of the warriors have very little taste for monotonous tasks of growing grains or tending livestock.
A few males do sometimes raise to minor positions here, but the have to fight tooth and nail for the privilege and will never raise to high in the ranks and most remain homemakers or skilled craftsmen or laborers.
Most true wolfwalkers, a common term for werewolves or varying sorts in Inisfail, serve in military positions (Banfennid, Banrigfennid, warriors and rangers usually) though some turn to Druidry or another natural or fae magic class. Also many in the Queendom prefer living, working, warring and adventuring in groups, often adopting pack-like structures for support and community, growing as a chosen family. There are a few though who still prefer the path of the lone wolf and live as wilderness hermits.
It should also be noted that all of Aritech's neighbors strongly dislike the Sphinxes of Airitech and suffer from irregular raids and a seemingly never ending wild wolf population that knows not borders. Also, Aritech is surrounded by a deadly wolf filled woods which may as well be impenetrable and always seem to have Warrior Women stalking it's own borders with more vigilance then the chaotic raiders impression may hint at. Worse still, neighboring young male Sphinxes cannot resist tales of the beautiful and wild warrior women rather then wanting to war with them! ---------   ─── ･ ｡ﾟ☆: *.☽ .* :☆ﾟ. ─── |

8. Brave Warrior! Not all warriors in Inisfail charged into battle wearing only woad! There were many Kings, Queens and various Tribal leaders scattered across the land and just as many styles of Nobility. Some were distinguished by tattoos, some extremely detailed tartans, others bedecked in trophies that clearly announced their prowess and many still had very fine and talent tailers who worked with local wools and flaxes while trying to keep up for the demand of newer imported cloths, silks and other more exotic materials. ...but very few nobles in Inisfail simply ruled by their laurels. Most leaders needed to be skilled with the blade or mind... or both! A tribe or kingdom left to an ineffectual child was doomed to fade or be conquered. ------------------------------- Colour the image below and post it in this thread along with the title of this post, "Brave Warrior!" to be entered into a draw for the Brave Warrior posted above! Temple of Bastet Masked Priestess Trials - Saturday May 11th (sometime in the evening)  Fine Priestess Trials!Selene IV: I've been inspired by all the cat lore of Inisfail this year and would like to try something different. I am positive that Bastet herself would approve of our Priestess trial this year! We are going to hold a Cat Vote! Genius, right? --------- There are two parts to participating in this years Fine Priestess Trails. Step One - Nominate yourself! Post an image of the Sphinx you would like to have upgraded to Fine Priestess in this current thread along with the Title of "Vote for Me, I'm the XXX!" where XXX can be any descriptive word you chose... prettiest? wisest? own the most cats? Also, along your image and title, please say something about yourself to the onlookers at the Temple! You may also add images to your intro post if you wish... something to show off how much you deserve the job or perhaps just a bunch of cat treats to buy yourself some votes!? This nomination post must be made by the end of Tuesday May 14th. Step Two - Cat Vote! Everyone may vote in this thread for their choice of new Priestess! ...and by everyone, I mean every CAT! In order to vote, post an image of any cat you own in this thread along with the name of the Sphinx that cat is voting for. Selene IV will translate the Meows. Each cat gets a vote so you may vote once for every cat you own! (all Cat pets count for this contest. Heb Cats, Butterfly Cats, Feather Cats, Leopards etc. Aesop cats may also vote!) Voting day is any time on Wednesday May the 15th, with polls closing at midnight! In the case of a tie, Berenice the VII shall vote (at random, cuz that's how she rolls her cat toys) to decide a final winner! |
