Since it came up in the thread, and I never wrote them down, I'm putting a forum for book recommendations for people to read. List off your favourites!
I highly recommend.. Good Omens (the nice and accurate predictions of Agnus Nutter - witch) - Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman It's a hillarious book about the apocalypse. It has a huge fanbase/cult following. Seriously good book. One of only two books that I've re-read.
American Gods - Neil Gaiman I don't want to give spoilers, but it's basically about a man named Shadow who runs into some 'very interesting' people.
House of Dreams - Pauline Gedge House of Illusions (it's sequel) An ancient Egyptian story about a peasant girl to rises to become Pharaoh's favourite concubine. (short books, really good.)
The Last Unicorn - Peter S. Beagle Better then the movie, which was already amazing because the author wrote the screenplay. The other book I've re-read.
(ETA) The last unicorn has no adult content. House of Dreams/Illusions and American Gods definitely have adult content. I can't remember if Good Omens did, I don't believe so though.

The Kingkiller Trilogy - Patrick Rothfuss OMG I am in LOVE with the Kingkiller trilogy! I 100% second how amazing these books are The Chronicles of Pellinor are another major favorite of mine, I have yet to find other people who have read them, but the are beautiful, lyrical, and Tolkien-esque.... and I may need some sphinx characters from these. I will have to add more later...

Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series by Yasmine GalenornI love these books they are AMAZING and I think you would love them Pooka <3 They are quite a big challenge with 21 books currently in the series plus a couple short story collections and a few novellas. I have yet to finish reading them all myself, but they have easily become one of my all time fave collections of books. I currently own 18 out of the 21 in the series itself and hope to own the short story collections and novellas some day as well. These books are so uniquely done as each book in the series rotates between each of the three sisters points of view while still continuing the story as a whole. I wish I could post the short synopsis from the back of the books for you but they have some colorful words >.> so I will link them instead. Warning These are Fantasy/Romance books with Adult Content Links to the first 3 books of the series <3 Book #1 - Witchling Book #2 - Changeling Book #3 - Darkling

^ I second that!! Love me some Patricia Briggs! <3 Let's see... I recommend: Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles) - (Sci-Fi/Fantasy Adult) Ilona Andrews Magic Bites (Kate Daniels Series) - (Urban Fantasy/Shifter Adult) Ilona Andrews Burn for Me (HIdden Legacy) - (Urban Fantasy Adult) Ilona Andrews Basically anything Ilona Andrews. I'm a big sucker for good world building and sarcasm to n^ degree; and a they throw just enough romance in there to really keep a girl happy XD And! If you're interested in Slavic/Middle Eastern/Eastern European myths and legends; Kate Daniels does a really good job exploring that. The whole take on mages, shifters, and vampires is on another dimension. A Court of Thorns and Roses Series (New Adult Fantasy) - Sarah J. Maas The Summer Dragon (Fantasy) - Todd Lockwood City in Embers The Collector's Series (New Adult/Urban Fantasy) - Stacey Marie Brown Radiance Wraith Kings Series - (Fantasy Adult) - Grace Draven Into the Land of the Unicorn - (Fantasy) Bruce Coville I've loved this series for the longest time. It was just one of my childhood picks. Oh! Well, I have a goodreads account if anyone's interested in more stuff that I read. I could go on and on since I have a library (physical and digital) dedicated to just my love my books XD ETA: here's a link

Booooooks! Moon Called (Mercy Thompson series) by Patricia BriggsSecond what everyone else has said. I think it may be time to re-read them again for me. XD Green Rider (Green Rider series) by Kristen BritainMedieval fantasy adventure with some romance. Very much your typical hero story; girl gets thrown into a world of danger & magic that she never expected to be a part of and has to learn how to overcome these magical obstacles to save the realm. Ongoing series, but looooong waits between books. I think book 6 just came out that I NEED TO READ! Hawksong (The Kiesha'ra Series) by Amelia Atwater-RhodesFantasy shapeshifters, focusing on Avians & Snake shifters that are at war with one another. The heir to the Avian throne wants to stop the war, so she agrees to marry the Snake heir. This book is about their struggles in learning more about each other and working out differences. The rest of the series continues with other pairings from the same realm. Short books, very interesting! Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness Quartet) by Tamora PierceYounger set of books set in medieval fantasy world. A girl wants to become a knight, but is sent off to become a proper lady. So she trades places with her twin and goes to the palace to learn to become a knight. This is one series, there are others that follow in the same world: The Immortals, Protector of the Small, Daughter of the Lioness, and Provost's Dog. Sandry's Book (Circle of Magic series) by Tamora PierceYounger set of books again, set in medieval fantasy world. Four children realize through disaster, that they have magic. Their families unable to deal or help control the magic send them off to a special school. They bond and find together they're able to help one another and be stronger together. Oh and they also happen to save their school and the country in the meantime. Also has branching series from the same world: The Circle Opens, and The Circle Reforged.

So I'm adding lots of books to my reading list here! Considering I live in a house literally packed to the roof with books I have only gotten back into reading fiction after a several years of... well mostly comics, (-8 Which I will share some of the best! I think several of them fit the theme of several of the listed books but a few steer way off into some different genres and themes. I'll also remember at least 10 more titles to add to this shortly after I post it...
I can also give more details if anyone wants, but I'll just add a sentence or two teaser and try to avoid any spoilers.
Every single title below should be noted to have Adult Content. (with the possible exceptions of Runaways and Darth Vader, but both are still chock full of cartoony comic book violence.)
Fables - If you like Once Upon a Time you will really like this. Its 253% better. (I didn't make that number up, its science. Don't google for it, trust me.) It's a bunch of fairy tail people and creatures (and a few other public domain characters) living together in New York.
Y the Last Man - Every man on the planet falls over dead. Except for the main character. This is an amazing adventure drama not a fan service anime!
Runaways - The first two series of this comic are super amazing (before it begins to get drawn into the mess of giant marvel comic crossovers.). It's hard not to drop the spoiler... so be careful if you google it, but its about a bunch of kids who's parents have special powers or neat tricks. Nico and Karolina are some of my favorite comic characters of all time and the rest of the team is really great too.
B**** Planet - Ya, I know, that title... but it make sense and is currently a leading feminist comic in its own right. Its about a prison planet for women who are 'non-compliant'. There is not even a dozen issues as I'm writing this but its already started a fairly popular trend of people getting the non-compliant tattoo seen in the book...
The Wicked + The Divine - Every 90 years the gods walk the earth and its happening again now. This book is super fun!
Saga - Star Wars with magic and a lot of strong in your face opinions and the story of two different lovers of different alien species just trying to live their life in the midst of war. There was controversy over just the cover of the first issue alone (an image of the main character breastfeeding her baby. something that shouldn't be controversial but was).
Lazarus - A dystopian future where wealthy families essentially became the government and each family maintains a Lazarus which is a single individual who is enhanced using every resource the family has to be their own personal super soldier, bodyguard and gladiator. You cannot help but feel for many of the characters which really pulls you into the world... and fear the possibilities.
V for Vendetta - I read this when it first came out and it changed my perspective of both comics and the world I saw with my young eyes... There are a LOT of other books and films that probably own this title something for opening up a whole new kind of storytelling. You have definitely seen its influence in the Guy Fawkes masks in every protest in the last decade.
Empowered - Pooka's favorite sexy super heroine book, (-8 There is nothing quite like Empowered... its a strange mix of western superheroes, anime, character drama, lovable characters with flaws all wrapped up in a unique and gorgeous art style.
DMZ - Ok, Ok, obviously I can't get enough dystopia. This is the story of a reporter going into the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) of Manhattan as America is divided into two countries. The characters are great, you can't tell who is a good guy or a bad guy and the ending still haunts me.
S** Criminals - Ya, another one of those titles... they do that on purpose you know, (-8 ... but this is about S** AND Crime, not what the title implies. There is no way to describe the plot without a spoiler. If you like the first couple of issues you will be hooked like the rest of the super huge group of Brimpers out there. This is still an adult book though if the title wasn't an obvious giveaway.
The Walking Dead - Way better then the show in my opinion... I love the book but gave up on the tv show years ago.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - This is just made of fun.
Watchmen - It's on every single best comic list in existence. For a reason. Though to be honest, amazing as it is, it was more amazing at the time and younger readers may not see how original it was because its had so much influence on so much media that has come after it.
Darth Vader - You can take a giant sigh of relief while reading this critically acclaimed and canon Darth Vader story that goes A VERY LONG way to redeem the damage done to the character in episodes I-III. It makes Darth Vader cool and explains tons. It also introduces the outstanding Dr. Aphra as well as fan favorites 000 and Bt-1 (otherwise know as evil R2D2 and C3P0)

For anyone interested in something more existential I recently came across a book Conversations with god; an uncommon dialogue - written by Neale Donald Walsch. I wouldn't say its something to live by, and its not religious by any means. I've just barely gotten through the first chapter of the book and my goodness some of the concepts are really something to try and wrap your head around! ^^
