 Welcome to the city of Phix! | the Friendship Festival
It has been too long that the sphinxes of Hellas have been cold towards the sphinxes of Khemet. In an offering of friendship and unity there is a new celebration in the city of Phix where all sphinxes, from all walks of life, are invited in peace and harmony.
Ships were sent out to Ahket to transport any who wished to explore Phix for this celebration. Although, don't think that the priestesses of Bastet have ignored their deity, the Heb~Bastet is still happening back in Ahket... but for now the focus is on the new festival that the Grecian sphinxes have concocted for their distant relatives.

 Peristeri: Hello hello friends, and welcome to the first ever Friendship Festival! I am Peristeri, a priestess of Aphrodite, and being such I wished to spread the love to our foreign cousins. I set up this festival along with the wonderful Theron in an act of friendship, welcoming, unity, understanding and love.
Theron: Welcome visitors to Phix, the greatest city on this side of the great sea! I'm sure your voyage from Khemet must have been exhausting whether you traveled by boat, foot or magic, but once you've recovered a bit please look around and be at home cousins! I have put all of my resources towards this gathering of friends from far and away and truly hope that we can all find those common bonds that make us family!  Peristeri: *she claps her front paws together happily* I'm thrilled that you are all here. I'm nearly giddy with excitement! I shall be around Phix socializing, feel free to speak with me if you wish. *she gives a happy smile* From what I understand there are powerful wizards and mages among the visiting members of Ahket who have offered to teleport sphinxes back and forth from Phix to Ahket. We didn't wish to take you away from your own city's festival, things just seemed to line up around the same date. (OOC: RP wise feel free to RP your sphinxes back and forth in Phix and Ahket. There are some mages/wizards/etc on call to teleport small groups at a time.)

Missing Kittens! (Stray Cats)
 Sahret: Hey hekenmess, hello friends. I am thrilled to be here at your Festival of Friendship. Unity and friendship between our two cities has been long overdue.
In a gesture of good will I have brought sacred kittens from the Temple of Bastet in Ahket to gift to the sphinxes of Phix. They look much like my new kitten Hesa here.
Mew. We have the kittens on the ship waiting for us to gift them to... *a nervous looking Egyptian sphinx pads up beside Sahret to whisper in her ear*WHAT?!! What do you mean by 'some escaped'? *Sahret nearly hisses* I shall pray to Bastet that those kittens can be found around Phix!
 Peristeri: Oh dear, oh my! That is not good. But I'm sure that with the unified help of the sphinxes of Phix and our visitors from Ahket we can find all of those missing kittens.

About the Stray Cats (kittens)
During the Heb~Bastet, at the Temple of Bastet, stray cats are seen to wander around. These cats already have a name, and if they hear their name said they will come forth to be with the person who 'called' them. If there are stray cats in an event there will be a warning at the top of the thread letting you know. Ie: *Stray cats have been seen around this event/thread* If there are stray cats in a thread, and you happen to say their name (in khemetic or english) during your posting, the cat will respond and come to you. It can be made a pet for your sphinx, or kept to wait for when you have a sphinx to care for it. Basically it is a 'secret word' game. (A word search to check the threads that have stray cats in them.) Stray Cat Rules~ It will be announced in a thread when a certain artist's stray cats are around, and another note posted when that artist has finished their game (ie. not watching the thread any longer). ~ Only 1 stray cat from each artist can be won per person for the 'secret word' games. (this does not include cats won from other events, just the 'secret word' stray cat game.) ~ Spelling matters! Since a program is being used to find the word posted, if the word is miss-spelled it will be overlooked. So, to be fair - spelling counts. ~ Please note that this is supposed to be in the event of a 'normal post'. So no posts of just name lists in an attempt to call over a cat. ~ Editing posts is fine, but no going back to edit a post after cats have been won in an attempt to make it seem as if you had posted that word first. After the page has the word search completed and winners announced, any edits just to make it seem as if you said the winning name/word before the page was searched will disqualify you. ~ There are other artists with stray cats, and another list of names - with each of us not pre-knowing the names the other was using. So there could be repeats of words/names ~Although some Egyptian (and this year Grecian) words have many meanings, there is a pre-chosen, exact word that is being used for the game. |

Traditional Long Running Contests When it comes to judging: Please realize that we are not art critics and that we shall try our best. It's difficult to choose between so many wonderful entries, and we already feel like villains for not being able to choose everybody that will enter. So please do realize that if we choose one piece over another we're doing our best and probably will strain, stress and worry as we're even figuring out the top finalists, and usually we just go by what caught our attention the most. (also we never pick fast and put off judging because is soooo hard to pick!) There can only be one entry, per contest, per person (not account). PM you entries to Mr. Pooka with the message titled with the name of the contest (ie. if you are entering the art contest send a pm with the title 'Art Contest') (...also I don't always look at contest entries until we set up for judging so if you have a question feel free to either post it in this thread or PM it.) Entries must be in by May 20th Art ContestArt of any medium, with the theme of Greek Sphinxes and/or the Friendship Festival. Sometimes judging comes down to 'does it look like it could be from the Sphinxes adoptable or does it look like an anthro cat"? Its a trixy fine line! Games!The Games of World Building!Sphinxes of Ceryneia Little was truly known about the Sphinxes of Ceryneia but there were many rumors. Their swiftness and stealth was legendary and it was commonly believed that they could run faster than an arrow in flight though if this was just story or truth none could say... and when they chose to be near larger Greek communities it was rare that anyone would want to risk the wrath or Artemis herself, who seemed to show the Ceryneians special favour, to test this ability. What was known about the Ceryneians was that they were almost all (oddly!) wingless and always sported natural golden antlers, even the females! They were also known to favour the wild and when they worked with local Greek Sphinxes they often took positions of scouts or hunters or animal tamers... professions that furthered the beliefs of Artemis. To befriend one of these Sphinxes would take skill and patience and the ability to let wild things be wild...  Faster Than a Speeding Arrow!Several times over the next week I will post a .gif or image of someone shooting an arrow or something obviously similar, such as an arrow hitting a target. The first person to post the image of the boy above (EM2590) along with the title of this contest, Faster Than a Speeding Arrow, will be entered into a draw for him. Sphinxes of NemeaThe Lions of Nemea claimed ancestry from the very same Nemean Lion that the vicious King Eurystheus chose as one of Heracles murderous Labors and they have not forgotten. It was known that the Nemeans were vicious and brutal wild warriors and it was rumored that they had inherited the iron-like skin of their ancestor who was no ordinary lion but who himself was the child of Typhon and Echidna... who's worship remained strong among the Nemeans along with the occasional and conflicting worship of Hera... at least the version of Hera who still hated all things to do with her husbands philandering like Heracles. Nemean males took pride in their full manes and females often had a furry ruff and/or the wildest hair possible to show off their ferocity! Nemeans could not be bribed with treasure of any sort nor could they be bargained or negotiated with and they seemed to be dangerous anarchists to the Sphinx. They did as they pleased and what pleased them was destruction. There was only one known way to win the respect of one of their kind and unsurprisingly it involved violence and victory in battle... ritual single combat to be exact.  Fight ME!I will post an image of the male above (EM2589) in this thread at random times until he has been won. The first two people to post a Sphinx they own AND roll a d20 in the same post has a chance to win him. The first person to roll a 20 or higher you will impress the Nemian and win him! If the Sphinx you post has a weapon and is lvl2 you add a +1 to your roll. If the Sphinx you use has a weapon and is lvl3 you add a +2 to your roll. Optional Fight ME rule! If you would like, you may also post the phrase " Lets Get Dangerous!" in your contest entry post. If you choose to do this and roll a natural ONE the Sphinx you entered will Die and be reclaimed for a future contest (so you cannot resurrect or revivify them, they will be permanently gone.) but you have a chance to draw the attention of another Nemian Sphinx coloured by Mr. Pooka! The Architect This was the first time the young scribe had seen her homeland since her childhood when her parents moved to Khemet to work for a family of wealthy courtiers. While in Ahket she developed a love of buildings and stone... great pyramids were of course always impressive but so was the collection of Temples and Tombs and Water Steps and Public buildings of all types! Her parents didn't talk about home much but she read as often as possible about the different styles stonework of her homeland with its columns and arches that transformed the cities of Hellas into a true other world outside of the geometric skills of the Khemetians where everything was a various of squares and triangles. No less impressive, just different. She wandered the streets of Phix and marveled in wonder at is grandeur. "It's just a pillar" one local sneered as he stepped around her while she drew and studied the simple column with the same passion that a baker has when he first opens the oven to remove a perfect loaf or a boat builder has when her ship is first released into the water. She could spend a lifetime studying the buildings in this city alone but there was still the great Island Temples where she heard of a city that actually had running water in each house! Or a city to the west build into the side of a Mountain! Or the Great Lighthouse or the Hanging Gardens or the Statue of Zeus that straddled a whole port! Focus, she thought, lets get the beautiful basics and then think about exploring...Help our Architect find the basic structures of Phix! Over this weekend I will post the name of a type of Greek Architecture and the first person to post an image that clearly shows what is in my description will be entered into a draw for the Architect. Hemming and Hawing Tranquilla has enjoyed Phix immensely so far- it's quiet, compared to the upheavals common in Ahket. The absence of her toothy admirer has been noticed and appreciated, too. Unfortunately, the calm has been unproductive- she has already taken too long in finding a suitable trading partner in Phix, to expand her catalog and reach. Should've set it up when relations with the winged sphinxes started to improve, before a couple rival tailors popped up in Ahket with clothing from Hellas. Still, here she was now, looking for someone with a style eclectic enough to match her own. This contest is for aspiring tailors to show Tranquilla the clothing they'd make with her patronage- and the prize is a semicustom Greek sphinx dressed in the outfit they designed, which will become an outfit available to other sphinxes as well. Runners up will get a voucher for the winning design. There will be new outfits for male and female Greeks, and you can enter both. To enter, draw your design on one of these templates- Then, fill in this form and send it to Tranquilla as a private message with the title "How does this look?" before noon sphinx board time June 1st: |

 This lovely lady came upon some strange designs while she was wandering Phix. She's not entirely sure what to make of them. Perhaps you can help her?
The Task: Create a 'picture' from the description this girl has given to you. Everyone will start with the same basic shape, but you have to interpret her descriptions yourself. So, what is it you hear from her? What does she describe to you? Was it a play she saw? A building? A sculpture? The only limitations here are your creativity. Rules: Image can not exceed 550px by 550px. ALL must have the starting image incorporated in somehow (unaltered). Adding to it is totally cool, but you can't break it up into pieces. It must be your own work. You may use whatever you have at your disposal for this; art programs, printing out and traditionally drawing. That is up to you! Title your entry " Was this it?"; spelling counts because I'll be using the forum search functions. The lady above will be the judge and the person who correctly interprets her descriptions is who she will go home with. (ie This is going to be decided by random.org.
