BTW, I've been working pretty hard getting lots of new things done for this giveaway, and I'm not done yet! We're mixing it up a bit with new and established items. The box from MA was wonderful. ^_^ I loved it. In general it's been a great year for us. The Heb was probably the smoothest one we've ever run, we had lots of fun RPing (like TONS of fun) and I've gotten a lot of sphinxy things done. I love you guys, and these events make me so happy since this is our community. <3Now I just need to remember to get back onto the forums during the inactive times for PM RPs. O.o I feel badly about leaving messages hanging while I got distracted with offline things.

Many Sphinxes of Katterheim were preparing to harvest and retrieve this year's Yule Log! There were two parts to the Yule Log harvesting, cutting down next years log to season the wood and chopping the tree cut last year into huge portions to share among the longhouses and private dwellings of the city. There was a prestige in finding a tree large enough to feed the fires of the city and that meant traveling outbound for several days, which of course required some preparation and proper tools. At this extremely cold time of year even simple tasks like cutting wood demanded a certain level of skill. The war leaders in charge had to be persuaded to let any of the guests of the city volunteer but they relented as long as the guests passed at least a simple test of ability! ...and perhaps let them be supplied with some needed items...----------------- Door #6 - Axes and Scarves! If you would like to volunteer to help harvest this year's Yule log post an image of a Sphinx you own who is Level 2 or higher in this thread along with a d20 dice roll as well as a bold comment that resembles "I'd like an Axe" please. (Your phrase does not have to be exact or specific, just clearly bolded with your choice of Axe or Scarf). If you roll a Natural 1, unfortunately you don't get anything... but if you roll a Natural 20 you will win both an Axe and a Scarf! Any other number will win you your requested prize, (-8 EDIT: I forgot to add the time limit! This contest is open for 12 hours from its original post, (-8

Marian shuffled forward, glancing about to the bulkier built sphinxes and those just looking to gather the logs quickly. A paw lifting to rub the back against his nose he'd mumble, when asked of course. "Well, I'm not strong but the chillier weather of Katterheim has my nose running something awful. So, while we are out 'adventuring' for this... log of Yule... c-could I maybe get a scarf?" A hesitant glance around and flinch at the boisterous laughter of others gathering. Though not at his expense, surely, before he added. "P-please."uuaf1iUh1-201-20

((I think you mentioned something like being ok with giving out an alt cert for these items, yeah? For RP reasons I think I want anything won to be equipped between Kie, Aeion and Dehierah (hes collecting items to gift to his kids, knowing this specific holiday isn't something they normally experience)..or just one of them, depending on things. The items just aren't normally part of them ^^)) Dehierah was in the longhouse, silently collecting tiny gifts while looking for his kids. His ears twitched at the call for help and he raised his brow in wonder. 'A little late to be stocking on wood. Still, they may be outside exploring.' The tall male casually made his way over and took one look at the barbaric axe being offered before shaking his head. 'Ill be fine with just a scarf'. Axes were..too clunky for his liking. If he had to use a physical weapon, it would work in a pinch, but he much preferred a sword or staff where possible... ..not like he normally needed them. He looked back over his shoulders when the local asked for a test or sorts. 'I believe your worry is well intended, but it is not needed. Not for me.' He smiled reassuringly before heading off to help out. ldnJZL_D1-20[/b][/b] 1-20

Fulvipes heard the commotion and went to investigate, noticing that a group seemed to be getting ready for some kind of chopping exercise. "... yule log chopping" she overheard and she piped up: " I'll take an axe to help." qlKn0F4v1-201-20

Aurelia smiled and raised her paw hoping this was the appropriate way to be “called upon” to give her choice. She had a very young-giddy holiday type air about her. She smiled and covered her mouth with her paw as she giggled, ”I’d like a scarf as well.” She was leaving it up to fate as to the color, but secretly was hoping for something to bring out the green in her eyes. Yule Log Lore of Katterheim! Most of the Yule log lore of Katterheim was very similar to that of Byleiptr's homeland with a few additions that he was really looking forward to seeing and participating in! Byleiptr: The whole process and ritual of a single Yule log is a continuing and overlapping three year process. In the first year, the tree is chosen, blessed by Yule Priestess' and then cut down to lie on the ground for a year so the wood would season properly for burning. On the second year the tree was portioned into pieces to be dragged back to Katterheim to be burned in the many hearthfires. Over the whole of the season the giant logs burn and provide festive warmth for each longhouse and homestead, burning until there was only a very small portion left which was saved and put aside. This un-burnt part of the log held a powerful magic and was kept in the building where it was burned providing many benefits to whoever lived there, preventing a wide variety of misfortunes from lightning strikes and housefires, to toothaches, frostbite and even the growth of mold and mildew! On the third year this piece of the previous years log was used to begin the fire that would burn the current years log, thus creating the overlapping and never-ending cycle of the Yule log!
I'll note that in my own homeland I'd never seen trees as big as the giants that grow in the valleys around Katterheim and we never split our Yule logs. Rather we would cut down an individual tree for each household and, after limbing it, would drag the whole uncut thing into the house to slowly feed into the fire as the holiday progressed. Everything else remains the same though!
Now with only one (still very huge!) tree to go around for the city of Katterheim, there were some rules concerning how the pieces were divided up! Being so huge, the branches of the tree were passed out to any individual household who wanted one as they were each as large as a healthy tree themselves. Three pieces of the main trunk always went to the same places, the largest and closest to the root went to the Grand Lodge of Katterheim. The second piece up from the root as well as the very top of the tree went to the Temple of Freya, with the large piece being used for their Yule log and top being used to create magic wands for use in the priestess' Seidr. Now the rest of the pieces were up for grabs and each piece starting from the bottom of the tree carried the most prestige! The city's Jarls would collect their entire warbands and great games of Tug of War were played for the remaining pieces! There was usually a whole day of competition to determine who got which piece and it was always exciting! Occasionally to throw a bit of chaos in the mix, some bands had different beliefs or superstitions about certain parts of the tree such as a large burl or prophetically places branch cuttings and would save their energy for a certain part of the Yule Tree leaving the main fight to the larger bands over the biggest pieces!
It should also be noted that while the competition was very real and could get extremely intense it was in very bad form to hold grudges or let a loss get to a team. Good sportsmanship was a key to luck and harmony during the Tug of War events!

MA and Cameron, feel free to edit your posts to fix them up, (-8 (If something happens like that again during this game, just ask and if I'm around I'll prob say go for the edit, but if I'm not its usually best to just repost but we'll use whatever the dice roll was in the first post, (-8)
I don't think the edits change the dice rolls but I can see both of yours now anyways so we're double cool, (-8

Is the axe or scarf going to go on the shinx you post or can it go in your inventory?
