Holly and Ivy bring brightness, green and red to the Yuletide holidays reminding the people of Katterheim of the nearing cool breezes of the spring thaw and the warm days of summer. These evergreens were used for a plethora of crafts, beautiful, symbolic and magical! Earlier in the season, right after the first snow, there were even (mostly) friendly competitions played around which type of evergreen was first brought into each house. Holly was traditionally male and Ivy female and the first type to be brought into any household or longhouse would grant the associated males or females and edge on who would reign for the upcoming year! Twisting the two plants together into a wreath was a common way to curb the completion in longhouses where this may have gotten out of hand... Besides these early games, both plants also carried many other traditions and uses and were used and worn by nearly everyone as the Yule festivities grew closer and closer. While Ivy grew anywhere that wasn't tended, Holly was actively cultivated and had many practical uses beyond magic and crafts... though it would never be advisable to sneak a clipping of either from near the Temple of Freya as they grew a few specific varieties under their watchful eyes to be used in powerful magic and Seidr (specialized fortune and fate magics!)... at least those are the rumors...---------------------------------- Door #4 - Holly and Ivy!Worn by everyone for decorative, symbolical or magical reasons Holly and Ivy was abundant and could be seen everywhere as the days move closer to Yule! Everyone who posts an image of Holly and/or Ivy (I think the more festive the picture the luckier it might be, (-8) in this thread within 8 hours of this post will be put on a list to win some! When I randomize, the top 3 people will win some Holly and the bottom 3 people will win some Ivy. If you do not own any Sphinx with some holy or ivy on them, or have any in your inventory you may post the code word "EvergreenYule!" with your picture and you will skip the the random list and win yourself your choice of Holly or Ivy, (-8

That variegated holly is lovely MA! 😍 I’ll also concur that the lovely wreaths atop the Yule priestess’ heads are holly.
