Some Important notes before we continue!
Everything in this thread is intended for Roleplaying. Please to not make any non-RP posts or comments here! You may of course talk about it/coordinate elsewhere (another thread, shoutbox or whatnot). Specific game requirements do not have to follow these rules, but comments do. (for example if a game calls for an image or a dice roll you will of course do those, but no OOC comments here about the dice roll or extra info that is not in character RP!)
You must choose a Sphinx you own to RP in this thread and cannot change it later. The Sphinx you choose cannot be any type of undead (vampire, mummy etc.). There is only one dangerous place where your Sphinx can die but it is optional to play and clearly pointed out below.
You may join in late, after you make and introduction post (mission one) and join in the current game.
This game thread has a Page limit! The page limit is 25 and all contest posts must be done before page 26. Anyone who makes a post on page 26 will not escape this thread. Your Sphinx will die and you will lose any prizes you may have won in this thread! (This note has been edited to reflect the gameplay!)
Unless specified in the contest, a 'dice roll' means rolling a d20.
Unless specified in the contest, the prizes do not have to be used by the Sphinx you are Roleplaying.
When we complete a contest, or a certain amount of time has passed, a new one will be posted!

You have been invited via magic portal to visit Mr. Ito's private island resort!  Everyone who accepts the invitation is portalled to a lovely little resort side village. Several buildings with palm leaf roofs artfully surround an open grassy garden which itself is dotted with gazebos and a large pool. You can see the ocean and a white sandy beach down a wide trail and several other roads and trails lead off into the tropical forest. A pair of Sphinx maids with flowers in their hair quickly assemble on the porch of a an open walled building that seems like some sort of bar and lounge and as a group Mr. Ito will lead you over for some refreshments! While there is some technology around, there is very little that would shock a native of Ahket or Hanashima who could easily explain away the things as magical. "Welcome everyone! Please make yourselves comfortable and try some of the local delicacies! I'll give you all a better tour after we've settled in and had some starters. Honeybee can I please have some poke, whatever you think is best." Mr. Ito asked of a particular tiny Sphinx who smiled and went to fetch whatever a poke was. "Oh, yes I'd recommend the poke, it's kind of like a ceviche? No? Sushi, but prepared in lemon juice or vinegar with vegetables. Flavoured and seasoned raw fish, trust me you'll like it! Don't trust me on the local part though, technically poke is from another island nation... but it's delicious nonetheless." Sphinx maids were quick to make sure everyone had what they wanted, offering large sampling platters to groups. Some of the food and drink was familiar but much of it was totally new and exotic! Bowls of poi, heaps of vegetables, baskets of fruit and several different meat and fish dishes were available for everyone to taste and fill up. Fruity and exotic beverages were also offered and there was an incredible variety. Fortunately the maids were experts at divining peoples favorites. Music came from nowhere (hidden speakers mounted into the beams and hidden behind decorative coconut and flower decorations for those in the know) which added something extra to the atmosphere. ------------------------------- Mission One - Please make and introductory roleplaying post including the image of the Sphinx you will be roleplaying for this thread! "Is there anything anyone would like to see first? Perhaps the tidal swimming pools or the garden, or the beach or maybe a tropical forest walk..." Mr. Ito was pondering as a nervous looking maid leaned in to whisper something urgent to him. A quirky smile came to his lips and he could be heard saying "Really? Of all days!" "Well, before we head out on a tour there is just one tiny little thing, a trifle really... perhaps you can lend me a hand?" "So it seems that some of the dinosaurs who work for me... hummm, worked might be the correct tense... have decided to, to, well I'm not exactly sure what their endgame is but they have sort of run amok. It looks like they have taken over one of the labs and stole a... device. I'm not sure exactly which one but lets just say its nothing good, and almost anything they took from THAT lab could have some far reaching, dare I say it, doomsday like effects. Oh that is a good question, why do I have a doomsday device? Well first off, I don't have a doomsday device, I have several. Hum, I guess technically one less at the moment. Ah, my point. There is always someone out there trying to make something insane or destructive but no one wonders what happens to those things after they are taken from the inventors, or bad guys if you will. Someone has to lock those things away! ...and that explains some of the things under lock and key under this island. We can talk about the others later or maybe do a whole question and answer session if you'd so like, but you do remember that sentient angry dinosaurs have stolen one of these devices for unknown reasons on an unknown timeframe...." There was a urgent beeping on a small rectangular device (phone) that Mr. Ito carried. "...and it seems they've triggered the self destruct mechanism." A rhythmatic beeping started to chime from the device, as if counting down. "So, if anyone would like to help, first we need to get you to the lab... and that means just a quick trip through the forest, nothing to tricky. Well except for the nonsentient dinosaurs and maybe my wild tyranitars..." Mr. Ito shrugged with a quirky grin. "I'm sure you can handle it! Plus maybe you'll get to see some dinosaurs, thats exciting right!" He exclaimed with enthusiasm!  ------------------------------------- Mission Two - Get past the wildlife! Run, hide or fight your way to the lab. Roll a d20 and check the chart below to find your obstacle, along with what you have to do to get past it! 1-4 - Sphinx-eating plant (ex. Venus flytraps, strangle vines, not a vegetarian Sphinx!) 5-9 - Large Carnivorous dinosaur (Sphinx sized or bigger) 10 - Giant Tyranitar (pokemon?) 11-14 - Small pack of Carnivorous dinosaurs (smaller than a Sphinx) 15-16 - Dangerous Herbaceous dinosaur (likes to eat plants for biological or ethical reasons. but still in a bad mood or in the way) 17-19 - Natural Hazard (ex. quicksand, white water, ravine) 20 - Any exotic wild animal of your choosing! (sabre tooth tiger, dancing lemurs, baby turtles crossing the trail... its your RP wildcard!) After you see your obstacle you must make and RP post describing your plans and actions along with an image of what you rolled and a second dice roll! If you roll a 5 or higher you were successful and can continue to the next game. If you roll a 1-4 your actions didn't work out as planned and you must make another RP post along with a different picture (of the same topic, say a different pic of a T-Rex then the first you posted) and another dice roll, with the same success or miss roll. If you roll a 1-4 again, you must do this all again and keep going until successful! Prize - Along the way you find some cute baby dinosaurs and perhaps don't realize they will grow up so take them home as pets!   These cuties will be awarded at random to players who successfully navigate this game!

The Team arrived at a bunker like protrusion in a clearing with two heavy metal doors. More dinosaurs (or who knows what) cried and called from the surrounding forest encouraging you to get inside somewhere safe. "Excellent, that was exciting wasn't it! I knew this would be a fun holiday! Now we're going to have to get into the underground laboratory. I've got all of the override codes so we don't have to worry about any locked doors just any guards or traps they Raptors may have left for us. Probably nothing much, must maybe a laser or two..." Several Sphinx began to emerge from the entrance, taking up defensive positions. There was something about the Sphinx that was... not quite right. Most had unusual ears and some had visible angular markings... "Ah, they've activated the robots. How clever! We'll I guess most of them were doctors or technicians so maybe just clever on a sliding scale... Its just, I mean they had a lot of defensive options and they went with... sorry I'm getting off topic. I'm just so interested in their motivations and rationales! I really am looking forward to asking just what they were thinking." Mr. Ito was interrupted by the countdown beeping on his device. "So these might look like Sphinxes but from here I can't tell if they've been activated or are being used as avatars for the Raptors. Hrmm, the easy explanation. They might be acting of their own accord or they have been... possessed by the Dinosaur rebels and are being controlled from afar. We'll find out shortly! Looks like this will be a strait up fight. Are you ready? Lets go!  ----------------------------------------- Mission Three - Defeat the robotic guards! You must choose which Robot you wish to battle by posting their ID codes, rolling a d20 and adding an RP description of how you choose to battle the guard. You may add your Sphinxes level to your dice roll, round up .5's. If your roll is equal to or greater than the robots rolls, you win that fight and defeat that robot! If your roll is less than their number you may try again as many times as you wish, though you need to add a different RP description every time. You may also switch to another undefeated robot if you wish. You MAY NOT make two dice rolls in a row though. You may only defeat one robot, this is a team effort! Each robot may only be defeated once! With the robots defeated, Mr. Ito checks a rectangle framed in shiny metal and makes a curious noise.
"Oh, now I see why they used the robots! They've filled the lair, er, lab with toxic gas. There's no going in for us now... but we do have to get inside and turn off the self destruct countdown." Mr. Ito ponders... "Ha! They've provided us with exactly what we needed! Who wants to learn how to pilot their own robot? If you do a good job I'll let you keep it!" The eccentric host reaches into his magical satchel and pulls out a handful of elaborate, asymmetrical tiaras. Each had several extra devices attached and a few dangling wires. He passed them around with some instructions.
Those who put on the tiaras and activate them have an incredibly disorienting sensation much like waking from a dream where you were flying. Your eyes blink open and you see the world from a different perspective. Even more disorienting, you see yourself laying peacefully in front of you! There are several symbols and words flashing around the periphery of your vision. (if your character is from Hanashima or speaks the language, you may technically understand some of the words though many are still meaningless. A future or modern character may have some grasp of the HUD.)
"So, lets do a bit of quick practise, but we really don't have that much time!"

Mission Four - Testing! Testing! 1 2 3 4 Testing! Everyone may enter this game up to a maximum of Two times, in Two separate posts. Choose one of the Robot Sphinxes from above by using their code name and rolling a d20, along with the title TESTING. The person with the highest roll for each individual robot will win that robot and be able to play Mission number Five. You may not change the robot you are rolling for after your first roll. Ties go to the first person to roll the tied number. If no one makes a dice roll within fifteen minutes of the last dice roll this contest will end and no more entries may be made.

This game section is only for the Four players who rolled highest in the previous game, as you pilot your robot underground! (the winners have been listed in the post above this!)
"Now that the best robot pilots have been determined, it's time to take those bodies on a mission! This should be easy enough... I've disabled most of the traps from here and I don't think there are any raptors left in the lab. I'm kind of hoping that they've build some sort of mask because I really would love to see a raptor wearing a gas mask, but I won't be going with you anyways and this stuff isn't quite as awesome second hand... plus I guess we don't need the extra obstacles."
"Now just walk your robot bodies down that corridor and follow the flashing red lights until you find a large room encased in glass. You should see most of the lab from there, but most importantly you will find a large... device, a computer if you will. It will talk to you in a feminine voice that sounds like this, meow... (Mr. Ito does his best Eartha Kitt Catwoman impersonation. It's not terrible and you get the point.). Once there you'll need to say the password. Let me break it down for you exactly."

Mission Five - Infiltrate the lair, activate the computer and speak the password aloud! Easy right! This is a teamwork game for our robot pilots. You must do the following.
All of you must make an RP post about walking down the corridors. This might be strange and bizarre for most past characters seeing modern things. There is no one visible or any obstacles other than doors with awkward handles, but there is lots of glass windows looking into exotic experiments off many varieties, flashing lights and computer screens etc.
The next part must be done in sequential order. EVERY person piloting a robot must post at least one of these. You may NOT post twice in a row. Post the following phrases or codes and nothing else. They must be in order and cannot be interrupted or you will have to start over again.
1 - Access Self Destruct Protocol, Cancel Self Destruct.
(Not a code, but the computer will answer in her Eartha Kitt Voice "To Cancel the self destruct you must speak the password."
2 - Mu
3 - Ha
4 - Ha
5 - My
6 - Rake
(Once each code has been entered in order the computer will announce "Self Destruct Terminated. You cut that very close this time Saburo."
Prizes - An action point for each of you for success!

This contest is only for players who are not piloting robots and are stuck on the surface!
With the robots gone down the corridor there was nothing to do but wait. Oh, and defend ourselves from flying dinosaurs!
"You know, I probably should have told the robot pilots that they won't be able to wake up until they come back so we should definitely keep them safe while they're gone... We don't want anyone getting stuck inside their robot form permanently! Plus I don't want to get eaten by a dinosaur myself either, so does we should probably do something about those ones!"

Mission Six - Hold off the flying dinosaurs and keep our teams bodies safe! This one is simple but we need a good roll... Anyone may make an RP post along with a d20 roll in this thread. As soon as anyone rolls a 17 or higher we'll use their description as what worked to keep safe or scare off the dinos and the whole team will be successful! This roll must be accomplished anytime from now to 15 minutes after Mission Five has been completed (by the last successful post of that Mission). If this mission fails, there is no prize for this game!
Prizes - An Anime point for each player if we are successful!

"Excellent work!" Mr. Ito checked a readout screen just inside the bunker doors. "Perfect. The self destruct has been disabled, phew! ...but it seems we are not quite done yet. It looks like the rebel raptors are taking the device they stole to the top of Ito Volcano. Uhm, nope it's not a coincidence, I've owned the island for a long time and I named it myself! Carrying on... if they are trying to take the device there, it's probably the DNA bomb. It could have been named better, I mean it's not really a bomb, but technically it will explode when subjected to tremendous heat... like say a volcano. The bomb itself is not particularly dangerous but rather is meant to disperse some sort of genetic manipulating particles. I'm not loosing you am I? How about if I explain it like this. If they put the device in the volcano it will release a poison cloud that will change everyone it touches and it will spread for... well thousands of miles at least depending on the wind. Oh and it will probably trigger an eruption but that's really just an aside at this point. Hummm, I wonder what they loaded the device with, just a sec..." Mr. Ito said as he check the same wall mounted device. "Heh, I should have expected. The Devo/Dino mix, they must have gotten it to finally work... I figured I had a few more years before they could master that one, especially when they thought they were making it in secret. Right, your not familiar. The 'poison' is designed to make most mammals, like Sphinxes and Netjers, regress into fairly stupid beasts, while at the same time transforming some creatures into more reptilian or sauric forms. I know the lead doctor was also trying some sort of reptilian intelligent boost as well so I bet she added it as a kicker. Basically this is just bad news, unless you're a lizard or maybe want to be one? ...and really I don't know what would happen if you're part mammal and part other, sorry. How about we just try to stop this for now. That's probably best for most everyone involved!" "OK, so we know where they are going and it should not be as tricky as our earlier forest run. The shortest and safest route is through the shipyard. Ah, no, it is near the coast but it is not on the coast. It's designed mostly for flying ships and other more exotic vessels. If I'm not a devolved Sphinx-ape or maniacal lizard person tomorrow I'll give you a better tour if your interested but for now we'll just have to run on through. What could go wrong?" Mr. Ito said seeming a bit to excited at the potential mishap. There was a beaten trail with oddly symmetrical looking tracks on it that lead through the trees to the stand of tall odd shaped metal buildings... or 'ships' as the sign proclaimed. The trail could be seen meandering through the ships and turning left towards the volcano... and continuing up. Several tiny forms could be scene dragging something large and metallic up the steep road from here! "There they are! Lets..." Mr. Ito was interrupted. The sound of repetitive explosions, mixed with dangerously close whizzing noses and bright red pulses flashing past us. Patches of earth all around us began to burn or explode! The party followed the more combat savvy Sphinxes and dove to take cover behind a huge oddly shaped metal chariot (tank). Peeking around the edges you could see two Raptors on top of two different ship/buildings. One was had a magical device firing beams of red light (lasers) and the other had a loud weapon that fired projectiles at an incredible speed (machine gun) and both were protected by some sort of turret shield. "Cool, Raptors with lasers and machine guns! Which one looks cooler do you think? I guess this isn't the time, but really laser raptors, I wish that was my idea... OK, so we have to take those two out before we can continue and those other Raptors are getting pretty close to the top of the volcano so there isn't much time to spare!"  ------------------------------------------- You may only participate in one of these missions (A or B) but both missions must be completed to continue to the next game! Mission - Seven A - Stop the Laser Raptor! You will need to post two images and to phrases for this Game, all in the same post following this format. Post the phrase (or similarly dramatic) 'My Sphinx does this!' Post an image of someone dodging a laser. Post the phrase (or similarly dramatic) 'and then this!' Post an image of what your Sphinx does to stop the Raptor! (say a martial arts move or magic trick) *images may be gifs if you like. Mission - Seven B - Stop the Machine Gun Raptor! You will need to post two images and to phrases for this Game, all in the same post following this format. Post the phrase (or similarly dramatic) 'If we can just get there fast we can avoid that weapon!' Post an image of someone moving fast, like running or jumping to represent your Sphinxes actions. Post the phrase (or similarly dramatic) 'I've got you now!' Post an image to represent how you stop the dinosaur gunner, like say knocking someone out or disarming someone. *images may be gifs if you like. "You all are spectacular, nice work! This is it, all we've got to do is get to the last Raptors and stop them from tossing that device into the volcano, lets go!" After a few deep breaths the party began the exhausting run up the side of the volcano, following the ancient stone trail. Catching the raptors would be difficult but not impossible, as long as ... nope shouldn't have even thought something could go wrong. A small explosion higher up on the hill alerted us to the trap that had been left for us. With a growing rumble large boulders began to tumble, roll and bounce down the side of the volcano in our direction!  ----------------------------------- Mission 8 - Dodge! just Dodge! Everyone must post the code word 'DODGE' and roll a d20! You only have to roll once. If you roll a natural ONE then you are knocked down the hill and out of the remaining games, oh no! Any other roll is a successful dodge. Prize - Playing the remaining games. |

"This is it!" Dashing past the boulders and up the steep trail the party just caught up with the dinosaurs as they were dragging the large silver oblong device to the viewing platform built at the top of the volcano. Already the intense heat could be felt from the churning lava below. Two of the Raptors began to push the device with everything they had while two more charged at us to give them the time they needed! A loud pop and splash came from the lava as a molten bubble shot a Sphinx sized blob of liquid stone into the air behind the Raptors, only to go strait up and then strait down again to splash into the magma. The ensuing splash caused tiny red hot speckles of burning stone to crash along the rim of the volcano, some landing only a few feet from your paws... Even if the platform ahead had handrails, this would still be a terrifying place to battle! Raptors charged, lava splashed, heat burned and all with the ticking clock of the maniacal dinosaurs pushing the device ever closer to the edge... "Is everyone having fun so far?" Mr. Ito asked genuinely seeming happy and excited! ----------------------------------- Mission Note - You may only win ONE raptor in total during these missions, the first one you get/stop! Mission Nine, Part One - Defeat the first two Raptors! You must post the job title of the Raptor you wish to fight, along with a description of your Sphinx fighting (however they do, it could be physical, magical or even talking someone down... whatever is appropriate for them.) along with a d20 roll! If you post an image or gif that shows off your description you may add a +1 bonus to your roll number. The first person to get the number or higher beside the Raptor below will stop them (and win them)! You may enter as often as you like but you must use a different RP post (and image if using) with each entry and you may not post directly after yourself. If you do make a double post you cannot continue trying this mission, sorry!  Dice - 20 - wolfrysk  Dice - 19 - Minkey55 Mission Nine, Pat Two - Stop the last two Raptors! This mission does not begin until both Raptors from Part One have been stopped (and won!)Post the job title of the Sphinx you are trying to stop along with and RP description with an image to back up your description. Also, roll a d20 all in the same post. The first person to get the number or higher of their chosen target will stop the dinosaur and win them! You may enter as often as you like but you must use a different RP post and image with each entry and you may not post directly after yourself. The volcano rumbled and another pair of lava balls shot up and out... one away from us but another flew almost over our heads... "Well it looks like this thing is still gonna blow, we should totally get out of here and take take that device with us! If you surrender now you can come with us and maybe we can work something out Doctor!" The Raptor Doctor howled in frustration at being defeated and seeing so many hard laid plans crash and burn, ironically unlike the DNA device. She backed to the edge of the platform with angry eyes glaring us down and her left foot slipped, just a little but her claw caught and she maintained her balance... never taking her eye off of us. With a defiant determination she plucked a short wand like object from her belt, pressed it to her chest and there was an audible click. "Not my special shot from Dr. Dawson, that was for my Thursday roleplay!" Mr. Ito snapped, the first time this during this whole mess that he seemed genuinely upset... at least a little. The Raptor clenched her clawed fists and hunched over as bright feathery wings sprouted from her back and the feathers along her tail grew and widened. With a kick she leapt from the platform to make her escape!  -------------------------- Mission Ten, if you choose to accept it! - Stop the final Raptor boss by leaping after her and forcing her back down to a safe landing spot using your descriptive powers! This Mission is extremely Dangerous and Risky, read carefully before attempting! The very last person to make a post on the bottom of page 25 with a roleplaying post explaining how they stopped the final boss without falling in the Lava wins! Prize - 15 Anime Points! - Congrats Siopilos! |

"That was exciting wasn't it? I'm lucky you all were around when this happened, I'd hate to have lost control of this particular situation. There will have to be some added layers of protection added to ensure this sort of thing doesn't happen with any of the other Dinosaurs or other enhanced creatures... What's that? Oh, ho, no, I don't see any good reason to NOT enhanced dinosaurs or other creatures at all. I mean where's the fun in that... plus, don't you think that other creatures deserve a shot at evolution? I don't think I have the sort of prejudice that would deny a creature sentience simply because of its species... Ah, but we're getting off the big topic. You all helped stop this particular uprising of the Raptors and saved a lot of people! I mean you could have just gone home, but you stuck it out and showed off your heroism and for that you have my thanks and appreciation. It also looks like some of you have picked up some fine new things along the way... lets call them party favours!" "Why don't we all head back down the resort and relax a bit. It looks like the volcano was just rumbling and will probably calm down on it's own. I'm sure any of you who also own a volcano can empathise... they can be temperamental! Oh and I'll leave the Raptors in your hands, perhaps you can help them find their way. I mean technically I guess they're fired but I still like them and with the right guidance... who knows! Oh yes, drinks, beach, pools, food and a pile of amenities await so lets go have some fun! Of course if your not the type interested in fun there is always the portal back to Ahket as well. I'll be heading back there in a day or two myself once I tidy up any loose ends here... and checked out some weird things that have been supposedly crawling out of a new spaceship acquire of mine. Probably nothing to worry about though! Really! Just head on down to the beach and have some fun! ...but if you hear any weird noises... Nah, best just not think about it.  Houston does a little jig in, nearly knocking into one of the maid Sphinxes. “Well I’m blind, but I ain’t undead! So here I root-tootin’ am.” He smiles and wiggles his mustache. He took a plate of the “sushi” type poke that he’d almost knocked to the floor, and went to find someplace to plop down, nearly missing his seat. However, love pulled on his clothes just hard enough he thudded into his chair instead of to the grown. |
