*works on secret project with Pooka* ...but slowly... I'm exhausted after catching to many yummy fishes, (-8 After couple of slow years I bounced back a couple nights ago and caught so many smelts in one evening it took me an entire day to get them all ready for the freezer! It's a great feeling putting up so much good food, (-8 *watches odd collection of media that is all on theme for secret project...* At least you caught! I went out to the creek where I had been told there would be trout. Thursday I went out, had put my tackle box in my one back pack, kept hold of my rod and rode my bike. I get to the spot where I wanted to be which was between the two bridges....the bike/walk path bridge and the road bridge. Under the path bridge there are small rapids and there's a nice deep 'pit'. In said pit is a BEAUTIFUL palomino/golden trout. There was also a heron perched on a log off to the side. I got a nice picture of him/her, then as he/she flew off, I got off the bridge, made a left on to the path and leaned my bike against the one tree. I got my tackle box out and went for the one spot where I could sit. For three and a half hours I sat and caught nothing. Okay wait...I caught a branch, a rock, a branch, a rock, a rock, a rock, a branch where I had to get creative in getting my hook down so I didn't have to restring, a rock, a rock and another rock >.> I watched the freaking heron catch a fish. I got some pictures of the heron. Meanwhile on the other side of the bridge where it was calmer and it was a bit deep as well, a little kid, his Dad and his Dad's friend showed up about 30 minutes after I had settled. They were there five minutes and caught two fish. They were there 2 and a half hours and caught 5 trout!!! After they left, I quickly moved over and set up there. I could see the fish, there was a school of ten! Could I catch anything?! NO!! I watched the heron on the other side of the road bridge catch a fish. So I found a way under the bridge, tried casting over there, couldn't catch a darn thing. I move back over and five minutes later, two guys arrive at the spot I had just been to. They're there for not even ten minutes and they both got a trout!! What the heck??! By this time I'm frustrated. Then I have an older gentleman walking over the bridge, pause and go 'there's a whole bunch right in here'. No...s!!!!t Sherlock. I was polite despite being VERY frustrated and said 'Yea, I know, I've been here thirty minutes and they aren't going for my bait'. I'm using power bait and the trout don't seem to like it. So I'm packing up and two kids come along to the other side of the path bridge where I had been. The one goes on to the bridge and says how there's a whole pack. Yea, no kidding. So I told them 'I'm leaving, you can have my spot'. They race over and I wished them luck and they asked if I caught anything. I said I hadn't. The one asked what bait I was using and I said power bait. He holds up a small jar of the same bait I was using. I get my bike up on to the path and I'm not even down the other side of the bridge when I hear 'Dude!! I got one! I got one!!' and he's reeling in a trout!!! Seriously?!?! Using the same bait as me and I couldn't catch a thing and he manages to get one?! WHAT THE HECK?!?! I wanted to take my bait and hurl it into the rapids. I was...honestly...ready to cry. I had wanted to catch a fish so bad and I hadn't caught anything for those hours I was there. Friday I decided to try again. I went to the same spot, parked my butt and cast out. I had several people stop on the bridge and look over at the calm before the rapids side and go 'hey, there's a whole bunch over here!'. No...kidding. Well guess what? Someone was already in that spot, he was just sitting under the bridge where it was shaded and he was casting into that area. I wasn't going to intrude and get lines crossed. Had another guy coming around and checking out the spot and told me that a guy from the hatchery was restocking the creek and should be by any moment now and then he walked off to check to see where the truck was. Twenty minutes later, a guy from the hatchery comes by with a bucket and dumps it right in front of me into 'the pit'. He then looks at me and goes 'now I don't want to hear that you couldn't catch anything after I just dumped these trout in here young lady'. Guess what? Another day of sitting on my butt and heron watching. The heron was back and caught not one, but TWO trout while I was sitting there!!! I had to actually reel in my line because it went RIGHT for a trout that was RIGHT at my line. Ooooooo did I have a few choice words for that bird. I got a lovely sequence of pictures though of that feather brain going for the trout. I kept watch though on the guy under the bridge. Once he left, I quickly went over there. Once again, I couldn't catch a frigging thing. At the one point the one guy came back with his pole and waders and was in the spot I had been in. What happens? He catches a fish!! UGH!!! Another point I wound up snagged and couldn't get my line unsnagged and...line snapped. So I reel in, grabbed what I needed and started to redo my line and I said 'heck with it, I'm going back to the apartment before I just throw everything in the water'. Mean while this family had come along and instead of parking in the one little lot, the pulled off to the side of the road, get out and come to the creek. Two of the guys were on the bridge looking over and going 'man there's a whole bunch over here! You see them?!' and pointing to where they are and looking at me. Do you REALLY want me to answer that question fellas?! I said nothing. Meanwhile the guy that I had talked with earlier came over the bridge and he got talking to them. By now I had packed up and the one with his pole asked how I did and I gave him a thumbs down and went 'couldn't catch a frigging thing' and he just about dropped his pole going 'WHAT?! You're kidding?!' and I said 'no, I couldn't catch anything. They don't like my bait I guess'. So I started up the path to get back to the main path and I nearly crapped myself and let go of my bike. I held the shriek in because what was in the middle of the path? A freaking snake!!! Thankfully it was a garter snake, but this thing had it's mouth full...literally. I got an above view shot of this garter snake with a toad half way in it's mouth. I then managed to carefully move around front and get another shot of 'so you think your day is bad?' meme material. Snake is in the middle of the path, I couldn't go around. I took my rod and gently coaxed it to move. Snake kept hold of it's snack and moved enough that I could get by and not run over it with my bike. I got back on the path and I just came back to the apartment. Part of me is tempted to maybe try again some time this week, but a different spot. I don't know u.u Now I remember why I like lake fishing better. Calmer water, can tell when something is after your bait and not as frustrating. I also want to get Pondskimmer...Mom's kayak...out on the water some time, but I need a lake for that and there's one maybe...thirty minutes drive away. I'll ask my Dad to take me there one day so I can get it out, see if I do better there.

I'd love to have some big game in our freezer Ninja! We're loaded up on fish now, but other than that I'm down to just two bags of (delicious!) grouse...
Trout can be a tricky fish Angel, (-8 My dad was like a trout whisperer and it took me a decade of practice to get those stream/creek ones to do what I wanted, (-8
...and I love canning and making preserves Phoenix! I haven't done much of it since I stopped using sugar but now that I've got a better handle on alt sweet things and flavours I really want to give it a try again, especially with the super high cost of sugar free jams! I hope your blueberry jam turns out for you, (-8 ...I used to find blueberry preserves a bit tricky for me and my jams didn't always set... but one persons failed blueberry jam is another's amazing blueberry syrup, (-8

You'll have to share your recipe if it all works out for you! (-8 We've had such weird weather I have no prediction about the upcoming berry season, so I'm choosing to stay optimistic, (-8
...and the night before we start the Heb is the first night I get to try and sleep with a CPAP machine... just got it after a drive to the city... I'm sure being strapped into a new Sith like breathing apparatus will give me nothing but a great nights rest, HA! ...though honestly I'm optimistic about it helping, it's gonna take some getting used to...

That's exciting! But also a bit nerve wracking. Let us know how it goes 🙂
I did something to my back on Friday and it's still there. Doing whatever chores and such I can I'm sure isn't helping, but I hope it starts to slowly receed a bit day by day.
I made tiramisu. That I should freeze tomorrow...And I planted 2 blueberry bushes in a container in the back. Can't wait to get a harvest!
