I am Ready. Found this shirt on one of my favorite t-shirt websites (Qwertee.com), ordered it, and it got here in time! They have had a few others (Isis, Anubis, Horus for sure), but I couldnt resist the timing of this one (and I only had enough for one at the time XD) Five points for Lectral! (-8 Idk what the points are for yet, but you're winning! ...and such a cool shirt!

I've got a question! or lots and lots of related questions...
So, we've spent lots of time, on and off, trying to figure out how to fairly add breeding and growing to customs. The main problem we keep coming upon is how to do the tricky stuff.
What I mean is, the simple stuff is simple and easy. A normal Egyptian Sphinx and another normal Egyptian Sphinx have a baby, easy peasy. Easy to figure out the traits, easy to figure out a fair price. Easy. Same with two centaurs or two netjer or two time raptors.
By tricky stuff I mean, if two Sphinxes with very elaborate traits, anything from feather wings to full dragon fringe sets, have a baby it's also fairly easy to figure out what passes, but it's a TON more work for Pooka, sometimes days of work, vs. a couple hours.
Now we don't really want to charge a huge price difference for those two couples (the simple lion trait Egyptians vs. the full dragon fringe sets.), especially from a roleplaying perspective, but also for fear of seeming somehow greedy. (one of our major core rules is Don't be like Lupines... I mean back in the day they were the queens of scamming people, especially with misc hidden costs and totally made up fees! I know they are supposed to be run differently now, but back when I was on PI, yikes, downright criminal.)
...but these kinds of hiccups end up keeping us from going forward with something I know a lot of players want. It just doesn't work out if we charge the same price for one hour of work vs. 20 hours of work, both for us and you guys. Like if Pooka had time to do say 10 normal breedings, we can make 10 people happy and for a fair price. ...but if all of the time is instead spent on 1 or 2 breedings, lots of other players go without and Pooka could get burned out before even getting started and is def not using the time in the best possible way...
I'm working on a few different ideas, but I figured I'd put this on out there in case anyone had any other fun or fair ideas?

For the record, I do like Lykos a lot and it's seriously different then the old adoptable. ^_^ It was the original owners (of Lupines) who were scamming people really badly! Not really the topic of discussion though but I wanted to emphasize the difference. ^_^

I know I would prefer to keep things nice and simple for Pooka or even streamlined with some fun thrown in for her as well. I would say for different species cascading dominance should work with Egyptian standard being the most dominate of them all and then cascade from there.
I want this process to be streamlined and smooth as well as a bit more fun.
I have a mixed bag for growing and only one am I anxious to grow. His sweetheart is already grown.

I would love breeding as an option, but I have far fewer ‘Uber fancy’ sphinxes than some people, so I don’t know that I can truly weigh in on that aspect
Growing would be something I would be even more interested in, given I managed to miss out on the last times they were offered entirely, and I have at least one or two I would love to grow (Sakr would love to at least match his sister in age category, though at this point, I would probably even try to just make them both adults, and skip his teen, as long as his sister’s been at that stage!)

I think it might work if there were different levels of breedings? For instance, if the two parents that are being used have traits that add up to $0 (standard Egyptian Sphinx) to $15, you need a level 1 breeding which costs $X. If their traits add up to $16-$30, you need a level 2 breeding which costs $XX and so on. So, then Pooka could say she has the following available.
3 level 1 or 2 breedings 2 level 3 or 4 breedings 1 level 5 or above
Something like that might work?

From my own coloring experience, when I did a few of the Unicorns of Kalidore breedings the system was always to color the newborn + yearling + adult version in one go so that growing at any point was a little more seamless. The coloring work was done upfront so it gave the players the joy of having the baby but then having the adult ready to go when they were ready. I do recognize that is a *alot* of work upfront, especially when Sphinxes have tons of traits. I think because the emphasis is on adult traits/items/costumes which make them more playable, one way to tackle breedings and growings could be to do the baby stage + the adult stage together. Baby could be simple, no traits additional traits until they get to adult stage. And obviously the skip straight to adult option could be there too As for pricing, could it make sense to charge for basic growings or discount the traits for the fancier parent pairings for breedings/growings? Granted, all of this is still a lot of work for one person though. It might be beneficial to see if the coloring work could be spread around and shared with someone else, mostly so Pooka can focus on new traits, items, or future events. But that might be my business/corporate project planning brain talking when we try to delegate work across the team xD

I'm a little late for the topic but I'll throw in my cents:
I like the thought of Retta's way. My only thought would be if two parents are vastly different in their amount of traits, where would a breed like that fall? Because there could be really lucky rolls and they take after the one super traited parent, or they could get unlucky. Could just be a "that's a risk you take"
Cutting it down to just two stages would probably be ideal too, unless a person specifically wants the other stages for Reasons in which case they could pay for them (and would likely need to pay additional fees for any undone mutes)
I have some other thoughts but that would be a longer PM :'D
