I should make up a way to stay on track for drawing as it at least distracts me from everything else

Tennessee just issued Stay At Home recently. Everything that is non-essential is now shut down. There are padlocks on every park that allows for it

The shelter in place thing doesn't bother me too much since I'm really a homebody anyway and we rarely leave the house except for work and to care for our parents. I am horribly frustrated about not being able to find the groceries I want. Every place I go is out of RAMEN! How is that even possible?! Retta and I went to the store yesterday to flesh out our pantry with a few more essentials (perhaps a few indulgences as well) and Walmart was out of the bread we'd wanted, Lindt Easter eggs, and also totally randomly Con Queso dip. The other store we went to was basically completely out of meat. And finding toilet paper is tantamount to a miracle. We ended up stealing some from our parents' house because I knew Mom would have too much. (She's notorious for not really looking through her supplies before she buys more.)

While this pandemic and situation are very serious and everyone is right to be concerned, I am reminded of an interesting article I read recently that I think might help a bit with some of the worry. Personally I love reading articles on how the brain works and how people naturally react to various stimulus... I find these sort of insights really change the way I think rapidly and permanently.
The article sums up the studies of Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman who showed that people tend to greatly overreact to information that they can easily recall to memory which in turn leads to an over abundance of worry. This is especially true of information that is constantly on the news, like the constant deluge of information currently coming in because of Covid19. ..and off topic comparison that the article gave is that more Americans are worried about dying from terrorism than they are worried about dying from bowel cancer and of course that real stats show the opposite in extreme. The reason of course is one thing always makes the news and is constantly barraged at the public but the other topic is just something no one wants to talk about or doesn't seem interesting enough for sensationalist news broadcasts. This in turn makes people worry to much about something that is almost statistically against all odds but don't worry or concern themselves with a very real problem.
All that being said, this is still a dangerous and concerning situation but the levels of worry in everyone (myself included to be sure!) might be more than it should. ...and worry and stress are not good for anyone or anything especially when we can be focusing on simply moving forward and dealing with challenges that come, together! I know that is a bit of a wordy response but I really found that the article made me feel somewhat better and had the benefit of changing some of my perspective on how I personally react to what I'm reading and seeing.
The snow is rapidly melting here and I hope to see my crocuses soon too! ...and I think I have to cut my forsythia back this year a bit, I've let it go wild but I really love those yellow spring blooms!
Elliot Lake is basically just one big nursery home. Our city is officially now locked down and in an official state of emergency atm because of those reasons Pooka mentioned. This is on top of the Ontario state of emergency... there are serious repercussions for not following the (common sense and socially responsible!) rules in place to keep us all safe!
Def not just you! It was exhausting and extremely stressful going out to the store! I left with a plan and choose the recommended best time of day to minimize my time there and potential contact. I had several stores in other cities on my potential list to hunt down the necessities though I really only had to go to the two local shops to get nearly everything I needed. The first store (No Frills) had 6' spaced markers that wound around the store and a security guard outside to ensure that physical distancing was enforced. There was a second guard inside to ensure that everyone followed the new rules, which included only being able to travel in one direction up and down the aisles (which were marked with arrows on the floor.) There was a bit of confusion as in places people were trying to follow the rules but didn't know how to move around... like for example, the line ups for the cashiers went into the isles... so if you needed something where others were standing you simply had to wait for ...however long... it took to get there. Anyone who didn't follow the rules were collective glared at by everyone! Only every other cash was open (and the others completely blocked off to prevent anyone from getting to close) and the cashiers all have plexiglass walls to guard them from contact now. Also there is rule that only one person is served at a time, including the time it takes for them to load all of there stuff back into their cart. So, you stand there while the people in front of you get checked through, pay (through the tiny window to a gloved cashier) and then load all of their stuff and being to leave. Then the cashier wipes down EVERYTHING. Then the next person is called up. Even with all of this I found that the store was surprisingly calm and orderly with 99% of everyone just being patient and following the rules.
You can see some of the strong class differences between the two shops as I went to Foodland. No Frills is the 'cheap' store and Foodland is the 'expensive' store. They sell mostly the same stuff but you can go to Foodland to spend twice as much for the same stuff. I usually only go to Foodland rarely and then only to get a small amount of something they have that the other store doesn't, like they have an onsite bakery and their fresh bread is pretty good. ...either way, they had no line up though there was a sign posted that they would limit the number of customers inside at one time if they had to. They did have most of the carts locked up as a way of managing the number of people inside and a permanent dedicated worker at the front who would personally wipe down a new cart for you before you touched it. This place is never really busy and it seemed pretty much business as usual, though some parts were closed down (like the deli) and a few things were totally sold out like baking supplies, cleaning supplies and there was literally 6 single boxes of tissues, with a limit of two per customer. The store also had arrows and a constant overhead voice reminding you to follow them... most did. People seemed less stressed out at this shop, but really most of the people who shop there don't spend to much time worrying about just getting enough food to last through a month, so no real change.
I had planned to go to other cities if I needed to, but did pretty good at these two shops... and good thing to! After I got home, I read that in Sudbury there was a literal standoff with knife wielding crazies at a grocery store that day. omg.
...and after I got home everything had to be sorted. There were three categories of stuff. Things I washed (everything going in the fridge or freezer right now, like a block of cheese and some meat for the freezer.), things I repackaged (like some buns and english muffins that where carefully moved into new bags, with the origial packages carefully discarded.), and things I quarantined (things that did not need immediate attention, like a bag of rice, a box of tissues and pantry items like peanut butter - these are locked in the back room for a few days). That was a TON of work but I felt good and safe getting it done, (-8
If you do/want to/are comfortable with posting your stuff somewhere make sure you add a link! I love seeing what people are up to while were all stuck at home!
We're super homebodies in the winter so its not to bad for us! Roleplaying, Heb-prep, tv marathons, (-8 ... now once the summer gets here, idk. Most of the things I like to do then are solitary wilderness stuff so I'll prob still be good, I hope! ..although we'll have to see what other things become affected... like there is a current fire ban throughout all of northern Ontario swiftly changed my spring hot dog roasting plans unexpectedly! (though the logic is sound and I'm not complaining... now one needs a forest fire on top of a pandemic!)
Our whole province is looked down like that to! All public gathering places are off limits atm... We've got signs and caution tape on everything I saw when I was out a couple days ago shopping...
You make me feel extra lucky in my own shopping adventure! Between our two stores up here I could find almost everything (and I feel bad for saying but I even picked up another dozen pkgs of ramen because we're addicted) One store even had bathroom tissue (with a limit of one package) but we had lots so I left it for others who might need some. ...now if you are still not finding ramen in a few weeks you'll have to mention because it is about time we send you some yummy Japanese treats, (-8

Oh yea! There's lots of great articles out there now but I had this tab open for a few days and meant to post a link... www.vox.com/the-goods/2020/4/1/21203241/coronavirus-diy-face-mask-homemade-tutorials It's a handy article on making your own face masks including a no-sew method for the non-crafty, (-8 I'm seen a bunch more... instructions are pretty easy to find now! I also like the super easy T-shirt make in this CDC article... www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html------------------------ I wanted to giveaway something else a while ago but didn't... *Mr. Pooka's long thoughts on tastefulness and government recommendations could go here but they are long and boring and unnecessary but did happen* but with the majority of world on board and now actively recommending Face Masks in public (Including both Canada and the US where 99% of us currently reside)... If anyone makes one of face masks (or has already) you can post a picture in this thread along with something with your username and a Female Egyptian Sphinx you own and I can add one of these face masks for you, fresh from Pooka's Bozozoku Tribe, (-8 (They were templated last year so I can do a single colour swipe as well if you'd like to match the Sphinx or make them in the tradional black or white!)

I've for the most part resorted to using my ski-mask. It's simple to put/keep on. It hangs around my neck so I don't forget it! I have still been going into the community with my job, but obviously still wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) to protect the vulnerable populations served. My main drive in using my ski mask, aside from the ease, it has several layers, can extend down my neck and is easily washable. My understanding with even the at-home fashioned face masks need to be washed after every outing. I also wanted to avoid the mad-dashes to the craft stores etc. It's quite a joy and conversation piece when I show up to client's houses wearing my colorful mask. They so far have all gotten a kick out of it. XD Anyhow, here's what I've been using! If my mask-substitute is applicable; black is great!

Cool Cam! (-8 I love the bright and colourful! (also, no one needs to be in their picture of course but you can if you like, (-8 I haven't made my own yet but wore one of my scarves when I had to go out the other day... it fits perfectly and is also kind of nice looking, (-8 I was worried that some of my camo bandanas might just come off to... idk, like I was looking to rob a stagecoach? I'd take a pic but I left it in my quarentine room with the pantry stuff I picked up and won't touch any of that stuff till tomorrow (though I should have tossed it in the washer, I was worn out and forgot.) We've got a couple of bags of 'donation' stuff that I want to plunder for fun materials, (-8

I'm hoping my mask comes soon enough that I can get in on this. I haven't been able to go out to the store on my own because I don't have one yet, so my mom has been going for me, which I'm grateful for but I'd love the chance to get out more than just to their house and on walks

Leave the stagecoaches to me, friend. *winks* And a face mask is woefully unhelpful. It prevents one from being able to kiss a lady's hand. If you're going to ask for her jewels, you should at least do so courteously.

I haven't gotten to the point of wearing a mask yet. I leave the house once a week for work and if I need to do medicines for parents or get groceries. I do, however, wear gloves when I go out and wash them regularly as well as spray all the doorknobs and light switches when I get home. Due to the "Stay at Home" order, I got a letter today from the president of the school that I work for that I have to keep in the car now stating that I'm an essential employee, even though I'm on campus for maybe half an hour, if that. It's kind of crazy.

Ive given my brother (who is a front line worker) some of nonnas hankerchiefs/scarves/wraps. Hes been poking me to actually make some masks but I told him it was more to prevent others from HIS droplets. And I don't have my sewing machiene up and running.
That said ive seen the no sew thing and im debating grabbing tshirts or other things that I do not want to cut and making a makeshift mask. I haven't been out (aside from the backyard) since..err..last week? April first. So...yeah. Im hoping I don't have to go anywhere any time soon.
...also...I want 1 minute rice noodles now ._. We are out of the plain ones and just have the spinach ones and I don't like those as much >>
mm..as far as drawing goes. I did do a character sheet for someone I could post if you want? I got into some serious trouble with my wrist though and will have to see the doctor when this thing blows over.

I know the CDC has said we should wear a mask when out of the house. But I haven't been out of the house since that announcement.
WEIRD question to everyone:
Is it SUPER weird to want to buy like a snack pack of mini-chips and mini-sodas or things to leave if I have something delivered to my house? By 'leave out' I mean on my tiny porch for the person or persons who deliver to my house something to, maybe, make them smile?
I don't think it's weird but Paul does. So we're debating it. >.>;
Also, my mother took advantage of her senior hour and managed to find a 6 pack of TP for my husband and I. I need to find a way to repay her. Because at this point I've not been able to find even a single pack to help us. Which isn't world ending. Again, there are OTHER things one can resort to. But it was a very nice surprise this morning. Despite my asking her to NOT make that her priority goal this week. She did. Because she is my mother. q.q
